Chicago Rocks. First Lalapalooza now the Pitchfork fest. Why did I move?

Good list of bands to watch from RS magazine.

The Replacements are back

Chris Bro is happy boy.

Please still get drunk. Please make beautiful music. Please just don't suck. Please rock my world. Please. The Replacements are back together. Well most of them.

More Monkeys. The Arctic Monkeys are almost done with their second cd. I love those guys.

Damn I thought 5 million was reason enough but 10 million? That is just silly. 10 mill for the Smiths to get reunite. I wish I had that kinda money just laying around to offer broken up bands to get back together. I think that would be nice. You want more money? How about over 50 million for the rights to Nirvana songs?

College radio stations getting a wider audience thanks to the internet. I know I only really listen to KEXP.

Call him Willy Prince. If you find the Purple ticket you get to hang with the P word. That may have something to do with him getting his first cd to debut at number one. Or it could be that he is less werid and more, well, Prince.

Apple isn't the only store with 1 Billion downloads. Touch Tone. and mobile downloads now have a chart.

Double up on RHCP.

Good to have you back HM

Are you a Grup? Find out here. I am a bit close.

Paul Simon to Surprise with Eno on new CD.

Brought up by HM and this is a decent, quick review of Band of Horses. Completely agree that you need to listen to this cd a couple of times. Then it hits you. Damn this is one fine cd.

Jack White's new favorite band is everyone elses too.

DRM is Evil. Reason 5,276.

Snow Patrol chat up Rolling Stone Magazine. I was so very high on this cd until I heard the first single. Maybe the rest is awesome which is sad because I love the Final Straw all the way through. Even named it best of the year.

OK for the last time...Keane doesn't use guitars. I don't get it. Guitars are a good thing? Right?

Remember the good cartoons from Disney? Like this one. VD Attack Plan. Yes that VD but it's also Disney so probably safe for work. "Remember your mission is to blast every human being VD". I love ignorance.

A quick hello

I have been sitting on a mountain of new music going over it with most of my free time.
New Flaming Lips, Drive By Truckers, Secret Machines, Band Of Horses and Wolfmother.
Reviews in one form or another are soon to follow.

Another new one is Prince's "3121" which reminds me of this great performance
from the 2004 Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony of George Harrison.

This is one of the best solo's I have ever heard. Enjoy.

World Tour for Radiohead. Still looks like a new cd is still in the works. Is this a good thing?

Primal Scream are back with new CD.

Gigwise reports:
Despite widespread media reports the legendary Brian Eno is not working on the new Roxy Music album.
The official Roxy Music website had announced the news a while back, but have since deleted all posts.
Now Brian Eno website EnoWeb claims the reports were "untrue and just in-good-faith wishful thinking from the journalists -- Brian has no involvement with the band's current recording or tour plans.

MP3 from SXSW. The subways doing You got to give your love away. Great job.
Lately I have been addicted to The Sounds. They rock out. They swear. They have a nice new wave of new wave 80s/Pat Benatar(or maybe it's Blondie) thing going on. What's not to like? Have I metioned they are Swedish? Do you need more? This cd is pure summer fun. Put the top down and get your grin on.

and I think I got this from Rolling Stone magazine but I am not too sure. Update on new Dulli CD.
Twilight Singers Cut CD in N.O.
Greg Dulli's band finished album in Katrina's wake, with little power orwater Greg Dulli is no stranger to working under difficult conditions -- theTwilight Singers' second album, Blackberry Belle, was written in response tothe death of his closest friend, film director Ted Demme. But it's hard toimagine more trying circumstances than what his Twilight Singers endured inrecording the band's forthcoming Powder Burns, due May 16th. The record --which features guest vocals from singer-songwriters Ani DiFranco and JosephArthur, as well as an appearance by Dulli's ex-Afghan Whigs mate John Curley-- was completed in New Orleans just a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit."It was hard to finish because the power kept going out," says Dulli. "We hadto use generators a lot of times to get the electricity going again. Therewasn't any hot water. There were rolling blackouts almost every night, andthe curfew was still in place while I was there. So it was kind of a policestate that we finished it under."
Dulli had begun the record in the Crescent City before Katrina, departed forEurope on a scheduled trip -- where he watched the destruction daily on CNN-- and returned three weeks later to finish what he had begun. Though a lotof artists might have moved on to a new locale, Dulli never viewed that as anoption.
"I had to finish it there because that's where I started it," he says simply."And New Orleans had shown me so many great times that the last thing I wasgonna do was abandon her at her hour of need. What that city needed more thananything at that time was life in it. So I was there for two months of thecurfew. It was one of the most surreal times of my life."
Along with the serious practical hardships created by the storm and theflooding, both the Twilight Singers and DiFranco, who was also recording inthe city when Katrina struck, believed their tapes might be lost. Luckily, their work was salvaged by producer Mike Napolitano, who also recordedBlackberry Belle. "Mike had to do a kamikaze-style rescue," says Dulli,"blast the roadblocks, get around the National Guard and the cops to get intothe [French] Quarter to get both my tapes and Ani's tapes."
But whatever trials Dulli endured, he says, it was nothing compared to whathe witnessed. "I went to the houses. Unless you would've seen what I saw --You could see it on television and stuff, but the 360-degree,live-on-location look of New Orleans was like Armageddon. It was the worstthing I'd ever seen."
The environment, says Dulli, "absolutely" influenced the album's sound, withfour tracks written after the disaster -- including the title track, "BonnieBrae," "Underneath the Waves" and "I Wish I Was." The latter song is a kindof tribute to the city, "sung to New Orleans as if she were a woman."
Another Powder Burns standout is the melodic, slow-grooving "Candy CaneCrawl," featuring Curley and DiFranco. Dulli says the singers came courtesyof Napolitano. "Napolitano knows everybody, and everybody loves him. So ifyou're a friend of Mike's then you're automatically friends with hisfriends."
Now a few months removed from the devastation, with a Twilight Singers tourbeginning in late May, Dulli sees Powder Burns, his eleventh album, as asnapshot of a harrowing, challenging time. "This one is a look back at arather difficult portion of my life," he says. "And probably what I take awayfrom it is, 'I can't fucking believe I'm alive.'"

Info on New BEATLES book. Sounds good.

One of the Beatles most beloved songs contains the words "F**king hell!" The hidden lyric to "Hey Jude" is just one of the revelations in Geoff Emerick's new book "Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the music of the Beatles". Although "Hey Jude" was one of the rare Beatles tracks that Emerick didn't engineer, he reveals in his book that the mix to the song contains curse by Paul McCartney.
"Just after the start of the third verse, right between the lines 'The minute you let her under your skin / oh, then you begin,' you can clearly hear Paul curse off-mic, saying 'F**king hell!'" John Lennon caught the curse during the playback and said "Paul hit a clunker on the piano and said a naughty word, but I insisted we leave it in, buried just low enough so that it can barely be heard. Most people won't ever spot it… but we'll know it's there."
There have been plenty of "inside story" type books about the Beatles but Emerick gives us the inside story not about the tabloid like going-ons with the band members but instead the inside story of recording of the songs and how the Beatles broke new ground as recording artists. Of course, the book is filled with other interesting tidbits, for example how the album Abbey Road got its name. Many believe it was named in tribute to the EMI recording studios but Emerick gives the real story about the naming of the album.
Emerick relates the story in his book. Here is the basic story: The band had been debating on the name of the album with the general agreement that they would name it "Everest" in honor of the brand of cigarettes that Emerick smoked. The name gave way to the idea of a cover featuring a photo of the four Beatles on Mt Everest, with Paul being particularly keen on making the trip. However, Ringo hated the idea of going off to Tibet and as the deadline for the cover drew closer, John and George grew cold on the idea of traveling that far just to take a photo.
From the book: "'Well, if we're not going to name it Everest and pose for the cover in Tibet, where are we going to go?' a frustrated Paul asked one afternoon.
"John and George Harrison looked flummoxed. Finally, Ringo chirped in.
"'F**k it; let's just step outside and name it Abbey Road,' he joked.
"And that, believe it or not, is how the album got its name. It had nothing to do with how much they loved the studio, despite what the Abbey Road executives have claimed for decades. In point of fact, they hated the place. It was simply because they were unwilling to travel any further than they had to."
Emerick goes on to tell the tale of how they shot the famous album cover photo and when they were proofing the photos, although each member had a different favorite, all of them seemed to be photos of them walking away from Abbey Road. Perhaps consciously or subconsciously the band knew that they would soon walk away from the studio where they recorded most of their music together and more importantly would soon walk away from the Beatles.
Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the music of the Beatles will hit stores on March 16, 2006 and we should have our review of the book up next week. But for now I can tell you that it is filled with insights about the Beatles and their music not found in most books and is a must read for any fan of the fab four. This is the Beatles book I have been waiting years for. The true stories behind the music.

The All Pearl Jam Post

So, I have my hopes up for PJ's new self titled disc. They actually have something to prove again. Both Riot Act and Binaural had some amazing songs, moments & experiments, but neither were particularly cohesive. It was live where those albums really took off. Not since 1998's "Yield" have they had a record that matched the intensity of their live shows.

The first single, "World Wide Suicide" is a departure for PJ who seem to like to release introspective/difficult first singles to radio. An up-tempo churning number, WWS is a return to form and wouldn't sound out of place on "VS" or "Vitalogy". Vedder gets political again, but it works much better this time than the bloated rant that "Bushleaguer" was from 2003's "Riot Act".

They are letting everyone download the song free for the next couple of days here:

I think things just got a little easier for a pimp

Well I did better overall but in the top six only 3. I knew Clooney was going to win something and even he knew as soon as he won Best Supporting that Director and Picture was out of the question. That was my downfall. Great speech by the way. I wish a bit of his pixie dust would brush off on me. Just a little.

A few things jumped out. First Jon gets invited back. He did a fine job. I laughed out loud numerous times. The opening was wonderful.

The second thing. An ad. A few posts ago I mentioned that I don't drink soda much but because Pepsi seems to think I like Brown Goo spraying out of the Huff's crotch--I was going to buy a Coke. Not so sure anymore. Tab Energy? They don't even make Tab anymore. I am tempted to try it just to add Vodka to that cute little pink drink. It is fuel to be fabulous by. Count me in. I am sucker for a sales ad. Or you could just hit up the "new" sports drink"

Another Thing. Oh my lordie is Hollywood afraid of Home Theatre. How many times did they rip on DVDs and watching on tiny TV screens? See that is the problem. People can now afford the plasmas and the screens aren't that small anymore. Plus, you get to pop your own corn. That saves you about 20 bucks a movie. That alone makes it worth it. Hollywood would do wise and take note of the buying music online thingy going on right now. Record Companys continue to fight the future. You don't sue your fans. Duh. Learn or make the same mistake. People want to watch at home. Embrace the future or fade.

One last thing. Salma. Yummy.

The Boss. More details on new cd.

Artic Monkeys now have a DVD.

The Pistols sellout.
Gigwise reports:
The Sex Pistols are set to sell their back catalogue for a host of new advertising campaigns according to reports.
With Universal Music Publishing buying the rights to Johnny Rotten & Co’s material the company is looking to make millions of pounds from allowing advertisers to use the songs.
The Times reports that several companies including British Airways and Range Rover have already showed an interest while tracks may be used for TV and film soundtracks too.

half of Van Hagar hit the road.

Nettwerk reports:
How does a band like Stereophonics follow up five studio albums and four consecutive number one albums in the UK? They release a live package that showcases their career in a way that few bands can. On April 18, Stereophonics are set to release Live From Dakota on their own imprint label, Vox Populi Records. After reaching a crossroads in North America, Stereophonics have jumped at the chance to go it alone with a DIY approach. Live From Dakota is a 2-disc compilation featuring 20 tracks spanning all five of the bands albums and captures the best of their 2005 world tour

Picture: Brokeback Mountain
Hollywood gets back at Middle America for voting for Bush. Plus it is a great picture. I wouldn't be sad if Good Night and Good Luck won. In fact, this year all the films are great. Well done La La Land. I have heard that people are saying that because none of the film were in the top grossing films of the year this makes Hollywood out of touch. I say good. As stated before all the films are fine--hell better than fine. Plus these are the people that make American Idol the number one TV show and they voted for Bush. Below are the top grossing films and not a one deserve a nom. Don't get me started on War of the Worlds again people.

380,262,55 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
287,180,682 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
284,742,793 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
234,280,354 War of the Worlds (2005)
215,699,910 King Kong (2005)
209,218,368 Wedding Crashers (2005)
206,456,431 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
205,343,774 Batman Begins (2005)
193,136,719 Madagascar (2005)
186,336,103Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005)

Should we start at the top. The best thing that can be said about SW is that it was the best one of the second 3.
Harry Potter--haven't seen it but it is on top of my queue. I am sure I will love it but not for best of the year.
The best thing that can be said for Narnia is the SNL Skit.
I don't have to go into War of the Worlds again? Do I?
The best thing about King Kong was a slip and the T-Rex fight
I loved Wedding Crashers but c'mon--next
I actually liked the first one better. Tim has an eye for creating a wonderful world and Johnny Depp is great but...
The best thing about Batman Begins is that is the best Batman film and not even the best comicbook movie this year. The best was Sin City but that movie is not for everyone. It was amazing though.
The last two were just a waste. A waste of talent and a waste of time.

Director: George Clooney
First off-- I came out of the movie just blown away by the man's eye. It was very stylish but not flashy or show-offy. Ang Lee will probably win but Georgie Boy gets my vote. Plus LA loves Clooney and listening to him talk and he needs to win something. Well something big. The man is loved.

Actress: Reese Witherspoon
The Man in Black is hot now but Keira Knightley could surprise and they always love the "dress down" with Charlize Theron.

Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman
Everyone else just sit down. Nice try. This is Mr Hoffman's year or should be--see below.

Supporting Actor: Paul Giamatti
They make up for last year. See Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington. They are always a year behind. Crash hasn't won anything yet? Maybe Dillon

Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz
It could be a Brokeback night so don't be surprised if Michelle Williams nabs it.

Documentary: Enron: The Smarest Guys in the Room
Yes they were cute but I don't think the penguins can pull it off. Plus see best picture. La La Land is making a statment with this one. Murderball was great but I don't think it stands a chance.

So there they are.

All the Shorts are available at iTunes. That's pretty cool.

You made it...now let's go get a beer or seven

Just a few more details about PJs new CD. Not much but a little more info.

DOJ probes online music prices. I like using "probes" in a sentence. Remind me to do that more often. It just makes me smile.

More Cash. Get ready for more and more Johnny. He may make more than Dead Elvis soon.

MTV2 gets in bed with YouTube.

James Blunt is dreamy and also first UK artist to top the US charts in 9 years. He was the number one downloaded person last year in the UK.

Friday Fun. Mindless Fun. Go ahead--waste some time--you deserve it. Splash back.

So you wanna win the Oscar pool? Good luck. If I have time I will give my guesses. I was hoping to hear from Naught on this one.

The End is Near. Very close. REPENT SINNERS.
I clicked on this so you wouldn't have too. Pepsi ad. I just can't believe that Pepsi thinks that they will sell more soda with a bunch of Brown goo streaming from the crotch of The Hoff. I don't drink much soda but the next I do it's a Coke for sure.

Now I give you the greatest tune on Glaucoma ever. Sorry Greatest Glaucoma Hymn ever. I dare you to find a better one. I dare you. This song will be stuck in your head for hours and for that I am sorry.

Contact Music reports:
JON BON JOVI is disgusted rock rival AXL ROSE receives more media attention than he does, because the reclusive GUNS N' ROSES frontman "hasn't made a record in 13 years". He says, "You know what p**ses me off? I was reading this British rock magazine this month and there was a story about Axl Rose and the $13 million Guns N' Roses record that was never made. "That motherf**ker hasn't made a record in 13 years and he gets all that attention. You know what I've done in 13 years? A lot. But they have continued to write about the freak show aspect of him. Because he's a recluse. That makes him interesting, right?"
No Jon, he doesn't make Prom music; that makes him interesting

TuneLab reports:
