last night she brought me to -- a state of mind in an empty room

army of a few bands. Supergroup? Sure. Former STP, Filter and David Lee Roth's drummer get together to create some music. Another something maybe closer to a supergroup. The Good the Bad and the Queen. This one combines the Verve, Blur and the Clash.

Rare Lennon track on soundtrack

Gotta have a YouTube link. Snakes on a Plane. The Video. Careful of the intro...a few muted bad words.

Ben Harper on Tour. Must...See...this...man!! Amazing is an understatement.

The boombox bag. Need I say more?

Funny headlines of the week on late night tv and no Clinton is not gay.

Ape shall not kill ape. Good essay on how the Planet of the Ape films are us.

I leave you with a very not safe for work clip. The F*cking Short Version of the Big Lebowski. Yes it's just the F*cks of the movie. About 210--give or take a f*ck.

Friday Fun Post

So I have your weekend planned. Watch this. The video of Wizard of OZ and Darkside are already combined--you no longer have to time it out yourself. You know what to do. Then wake in time for the repeat of NEXT at 1071thepeak.com. Perfect weekend. If you don't know what to watch/listen for. Check out this list. That should get you going.

Not done with the fun. I thought to myself "I haven't posted any star wars lately" and before you click away you really don't want to miss this one(just be glad I'm not back on the toilet kick). It takes Star Wars footage and puts in place of Darth Vaders voice other qoutes from other James Earl Jones(the man who voiced DV) movies. It is glorious. It loaded slowly for me so just wait. Honestly. The Vader Sessions. Or maybe this is more your speed. The Cult of Leia's metal bikini.

Ok that was fun but me like-y music and hopefully you do too. Or is it u2. A great history of U2 via YouTube of course. I think I've already had too much coffee.

HD radio is ready. Great now radio stations get more chances to play the same songs over and over. Hey-- here's an idea. Hire djs that know and love music (like it use to be) and put them on the HD channels. Free Form Radio? That is just too much to ask for. Thanks Clear Channel.

NEXT WEEK 14

Hello boys and girls. Tonight another new segment of NEXT. NEXT is a new music show and you can listen online at 1071thepeak.com. NEXT is sponsored by Snapple. So the next time you find yourself in the drink isle remember it's not noon yet and support a company that cares about good music. I got an email from a listener and she has a myspace--space so thanks for listening Kathy. You kick a$$.

Playlist for NEXT. NEXT is also an iMix. Just head to the iMix homepage on iTunes and search for an iMix named "Next week 14". It should pop right up. If not just email me. Also if you wouldn't mind giving NEXT a vote. Thanks.

Primal Scream – Country Girl (Riot City Blues)
Back to the Future. A welcomed return to classic sounding PS.

Nada Surf – I Like What You Say (John Tucker Must Die OST)
From what I’ve seen of the trailers the movie doesn’t hold much of a promise of a good movie but the soundtrack it seems ok.

The Pipettes – Your Kisses are Wasted on Me (We are the Pipettes)
Remember the girl groups of the 60s…this is a girl group in that vein for the aughts or zeroes or whatever this decade is being called. A really fun cd full of great moments about girls just being girls—and that always makes me happy.

The Minders – Don’t You Stop (It’s a Bright Guilty World)
If you look in the dictionary under Indie Pop you would of course find just a definition of INDIE POP but may just find a photo of this band. It's a charming throwback—not to the trippy '60s, but to the indie-rock '90s

The Meat Purveyors – Don’t You Want Me Baby (Someday Soon Things Will Much Worse)(cover of The Human League )
They have been together for more or less 10 years and 5 cds. The first four were pretty pure acoustic records, as close to bluegrass as we get," Anderson says. "This new one has drums here and there, piano and electric guitars

Muse – Starlight (Black Holes and Revelations)
My current cd of the moment. The fourth cd by this UK trio this is an epic cd that marries prog rock to dance music. Strange bed fellows but a great listening experience—not there aren’t a few not so great moments.

Elefant – Uh Oh Hello (The Black Magic Show)
In 1986 they would have been in their element, in 1996 they would have been passe, and in 2006 they're one of the hottest retro '80s bands.

Pernice Brothers – Somerville (Live a Little)
Gotta love any song that wants to get out of Suck City…if you don’t know this band change that now. New song on a forth coming cd look for it in the fall of 2006. File under rocks most neglected genius

Pet Shop Boys – Psychological (Fundamental)
9th cd. They're the dance band on a techno Titanic.

Drive By Truckers – A World of Hurt (A Blessing and a Curse)
One of my favorite “message songs” The song plays like graduation speech for southern rockers

Elf Power – Somewhere Down The River (Back to the Web)
8th cd from the New york via Athens GA band. A different direction from sweet melodies to folky acoustic guitar driven songs.

Lily Allen – Absolutely Nothing (Smile ep)
Last year, Allen posted three tracks to MySpace and soon had 1.5 million people streaming her tunes and 30,000 registered as friends. She is literally an overnight success.

NEXT WEEK 13 was last night

and the public outcry for the playlist is amazing. Here is the playlist for NEXT 107.1's New Music show. Sponsored by Snapple. Thanks for listening. Remember that NEXT is an iMix. Go to the iMix homepage on iTunes and search for an iMix titled "Next Week 13" You will find every song there but the Matt and Kim tune. Hope you find your next new favorite song.

Charlatans UK – Muddy Ground (Simpatico)
They have been together for almost two decades. Good Brit-pop here people.

Gomez – See the world (How We Operate)
They celebrate year number ten in October. Get anything by this band.

The Heavy Blinkers – Filtered Light (The and I are Still So Young)
If you love THE WHITE ALBUM and SMILE, then The Heavy Blinkers might just be your new favorite band. The Heavy Blinkers are a five-piece band from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Nada Surf – All you need is love (Single)Beatles cover
All You Need Is Love" is a song written by John Lennon (with contributions from Paul McCartney) and first performed by The Beatles on Our World, the first ever live global television link. Broadcast to 26 countries and watched by 350 million people, the program was broadcast via satellite on June 25, 1967. The BBC had commissioned The Beatles to write a song for the UK's contribution to the program and this was the result.

Secret Machines – Faded Lines (Ten Silver Drops)
They formed in Dallas TX so why did they move to NY in 2000
"And anyway," adds Brandon, "in all the great rock and roll stories, you have to get up and go somewhere else. The Beatles went to Hamburg, Bob Dylan went to New York, and Jimi Hendrix went to London.”

Matt and Kim – Yea yeah (ep)
Brooklyn twosome Matt and Kim This pair have so much energy with Kim banging the drums and Matt playing keyboards, they create an avalanche of funkypowerbeat noise-tunes.

Built to Spill – Goin’Against Your Mind (You in Reverse)
My closest comparison would be the garage rock of Neil Young and Crazy Horse. A band that remembers what a guitar sounds like.

Ziggy Marley – Black Cat (Love is My Religion)
It's tough trying to follow in the footsteps of a famous father, and tougher still when your dad was global legend Bob Marley but that’s what Ziggy attempts with his second solo release.

The Brand New Heavies – Right On (Get Used to It)
The old saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” could well apply to the career of the Brand New Heavies who, after many years (their debut album was released in 91)have returned with their original lineup once again intact.
Anyone that loves a burning groove shouldn’t be without this cd.

Thom Yorke – And It Rained all Night (The Eraser)
it's "Kid B, Version 2.0," blips and all. Now he doesn’t want to call it a solo album so I guess we call it an unaccompanied, non-band album. It sounds just like a solo album Thom Yorke would release…so depending on how you feel about that statement is probably how you feel about this cd too.

The Gunners have a new stadium. Looks sweet. I'd like a box please. In search of an EPL team as a non soccer fan. The search by an ESPN writer.

I am sure you've seen it this but just in case: Gnarls Barkley's Smiley faces. Very forest gump type video.

The Observer lists the 50 albums that changed the world. Not a bad list and a good way of looking at Rock and/or Roll.

I love these guys and hopefully you do too. Band of Horses.

I know you have been waiting for the next band you are allowed to love so here is the soundtrack for Last Kiss and if you'd rather see the trailer than read.

NEXT WEEK 12

Next is a new music show on 107.1 the Peak. You can check out all the playlists on the website. NEXT is on Wednesday Nights at 11 and repeats on Sunday nights at 8. All times Eastern. NEXT is sponsored by Snapple. Thank you Snapple.

The Playlist for week 12 on NEXT.

The Presets – Girl and the Sea (Beams)
Electro dance beats plus dirty guitar equals good summer time fun cd.

Frank Black – In the Time of My Ruin (Fast Man Raider Man)
Now I miss the Pixies – lets get that outta the way. One of my all time favs but I love solo Frank Black too. Continues his roots/Americana/ alt-country ways. It’s a lot to love too as this is a double disc but not all of it works.

The Damnwells – You Don’t Have to Like Me to Love Me (Air Stereo)
This is a perfect excuse to pick up two albums by them. Air Stereo Due out August 15th and the criminally overlooked Bastards of the Damn. Think of them as a Wilco’s B team or Westerberg fronting Soul Asylum. Get Bastards of the Damned now.

Ray LaMontagne – Crazy (Cover of Gnarls Barkley)
You can’t escape this song this summer.

Starsailor – In the Crossfire (On The Outside)
Continuing the Travis/Coldplay version of rock and/or roll. Look for the album on August 22nd. The US version gets a bonus track too.

Johnny Cash – Like the 309 (American V: A Hundred Highways)
This is being touted as the last song Johnny Cash ever wrote. You can’t listen to this cd and not think about death. It’s everywhere and obviously on Cash’s mind too. His voice many be shot but oh man is this great listen all the way through.

Death Cab for Cutie – What Sarah Said (Plans)
Great epic lush song from DCFC’s last cd Plans. Have you ever wanted a reason to visit Kansas…here’s one
Death Cab For Cutie leads the line-up for the first-ever Bleeding Kansas Festival taking place next month in Lawrence, Kansas. The all-day music festival happens August 5th at Lawrence's Burcham Park. Along with headliners Death Cab For Cutie, the event will also feature performances by UK trio Keane, the Secret Machines, the Juan Maclean, Mates of the State, and Broken Social Scene.

Neko Case – Hold on, Hold On (Fox Confessor Brings the Flood)
I am sure this cd will be on quite a few top 10 lists at the end of this year. Yes it’s that good. Born in Alexandria VA moved around a bit made most famous by recording with Vancouver’s New Pornographers. She now calls Chicago home.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals – Toothbrush and My Table (Nothing But the Water)
Can you say Bonnie Raitt?
Grade just turned 23 and although this cd is barely 3 months old their sound is changing. Thanks to dates at bonaroo, and with My Morning Jacket, and the North Mississippi All Stars. Nothing But the Water" was recorded in a "funky, old, historical" barn near Waitsfield. The follow-up will be made elsewhere and surely have a much different feel.

Michael Franti and Spearhead – East To The West (Yell Fire!)
I think I’m going to write in Michael Franti’s name for President next time around. The man is brilliant. I love his lyrics. Check out a dvd too called I Know I’m Not Alone. His world view and music have always been entangled but never more so then on this cd. He recorded this after a trip to the Middle East.

Belle and Sebastian – Funny Little Frog (The Life Pursuit)
I looked back at my playlists and noticed that I had yet to play a tune off this album. So here’s Band S. takes its name from a French children's television series about a boy and his dog
Belle & Sebastian have managed to find a way to grow without changing their identity.

Goal the movie

The answer to most of the WCs questions. Via Page 2.

TV rates...Great.
The U.S. television ratings for the World Cup final are in, and not surprisingly, they were quite high. As Richard Sandomir reports in Tuesday’s Times, the Italy-France finalissima drew 16.9 million viewers — 11.9 million on ABC and 5 million on Univision. It is unclear whether those figures count the large groups, sometimes numbering to several hundreds of people, that gathered in public places to watch. Even so, the numbers are triple those of 2002 and 31 percent higher than 1998. And, as Sandomir points out, the viewership for Sunday’s match was greater than that for the NBA finals and about even with the NCAA men’s basketball final and the World Series. (Interestingly, though, viewership numbers for this year’s World Cup final are merely even with those for the 1994 final, when the tournament was held in the United States.)

No more soccer today *sniff sniff*

Shine on you crazy diamond. RIP Syd. Love both Floyds so don't make me choose.

No sophmore slump. Best second albums according to Rolling Stone. May I add PJ's vs and the Pixies Doolittle. And Wilco's Being There and with the Replacements Hootenanny it was a huge step up and the sign of the great tunes were coming. I wouldn't put it in a "Best 2nd album list" though. Feel free to add more.

Teaser mp3 of new Killers.

Thome Yorke on TV.

New iPod may talk. It's not a walkman it's a talkman. I'm having visions of Hal.

Stolen Beatle tapes. I really want to hear the cover tunes.

So I'm not the only one. If you're at a concert shut the F*ck up and listen. Please. Thank you.

CMJ reports:
Austin-based Spoon is heading out this summer on what might be best described as a mini-excursion. The band, who released Gimme Fiction in 2005, is set to perform at the Pitchfork Music Festival on the same day as Tapes 'N Tapes and Yo La Tengo. Then they're off to share the stage with the Mates Of State and Death Cab For Cutie for five California shows.

What will I do now that the WC is over?

It was a decent match. A great first 20 mintues then Italy just put 9 players behind the ball and played for pks. The French should have taken a few long range shots...did you see the German's in the third place match? You are playing with the most lively ball on the planet. Take a shot. Anyway a very sad way to play...playing for the tie. Although you knew that Bartez wouldn't/couldn't make a save. The Italians may be champs but they are still cheaters and divers. Get up Toni before I fly to Italy to knock your a$$ on the ground. A terrible way for Zidane to go out.

You knew this was coming. The Headbutt game. If you want a bit of history of Materazzi here you go. He is pure class via YouTube of course.

Other soccer moments like Zidane's.(M and M tune as soundtrack so there are a few bad words) The not so great moments and another not so good moment and probably the greatest own goal ever.

Great summer sounds. Good cds off the beaten path.

Looking for a canidate in 2008. Your search is over. Zod in 2008. More info on Zod or more then you probably ever wanted to know.

One more post. I know I have listed this before but these photos are very cool. You should just bookmark it and remember to check it out once a week. Factum. My favs are door and underpants. Kiss is decent too. Refurbished is a nightmare of mine in photo form.

NEXT WEEK 11

France are through. Should be an excellent final. Will ZZ end his career on top?

Tonight at 11pm eastern at 1071thepeak.com you can hear a new music show. It is sponsored by Snapple. In case you miss NEXT tonight it replays on Sunday nights at 8 pm Eastern. There are "Tivo" like software out there. So you can listen anytime you want. Just google "record internet radio" and I am sure you will find something. I haven't used any of them so good luck. I's also an iMix. Go to the iMix homepage on iTunes and search for "Next Week 11".

The NEXT playlist for week 11:

The Little Ones – Lovers Who Uncover (Sing Song EP)
Album art done by the same artist that did the last Shins album. From LA and just formed this year

Guster – C’mon (Gangin Up on the Sun)
I miss the Guster that never used drum sticks. Great live. you'll want to hit "repeat" as soon as the album is over. .

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Mercy (Howl Sessions ep)
These are not throw away tunes. The 6 songs on this ep were recorded during Howl. I already played one tune from this ep and will keep playing them until you get this cd in your collect. This is just me dropping a hint.

Spottiswoode and His Enemies – I’m In love With An Angry Girl (Building a Road)
Creative, unique and challenging. This cd was recorded in 2002 but finally released late in 2005. Fill under Someone to watch.

Frank Black and the Catholics – I’m Going Down (Cover Bruce Springsteen) (Snake Oil)
Frank Black has to be the most prolific writer ever. You might say Ryan Adams but I don’t think he comes close. Frank released Snake Oil in Feb and already has another double cd that just came out. I think he is still thinking about new Pixies someday soon too. I get tired just thinking about it. Then again I’m a lazy git.

The Supersuckers – paid (Paid EP)
Party band with their tongues planted firmly in the cheek. If they think it’s funny its in a song. If you don’t think it’s funny you might be too old. They were HS friends in AZ in 1988 and after playing locally for a year moved to Seattle. They have released about a dozen cds.

Robert Pollard – Blessed In an Open Head (From a Compound Eye)
GBV broke up in 2004 and this album was in the can for quite awhile probably to give the GBV fans time to want something new. You could put this down as solo album number 8 or the first one he really means. It’s not a complete album but there are a few standouts. Download those.

Indigenous – Leaving (Chasing the Sun)
Blues cd of the year so far. A very SRV feel to both the guitar playing and singing.

Massive Attack – Live With Me ( collected)
Their music is among the most influential of the past two decades even though, during that time they only released five albums
This is a best of with one new tune which we listened to but hopefully just a holdover until the release of their new cd due out some time in the near distant future. Weather Underground is the title of the new cd..

Snow Patrol – Open Your Eyes (Eyes Open)
I think this is way over produced. Where are the rough edges I fell in love with on Final Straw. This cd aims and hits all the right notes to conquer stadiums.

Todd Snider – Happy New Year (The Devil You Know)
He makes me smile on so many levels. You must see him live. Most of time his between song banter is better then the songs themselves and the songs are amazing. Not the strongest front to back of his cds but with Todd Snider you can’t go wrong.

Google fight.
Chris Bro v Helper Monkey...In a shocker of a blow out Bro 3,980,000 to HMs 789,000

Happy B Day America

What a way to celebrate...Better then apple pie...The World Cup. Now I really don't want any of the teams to win but the one team I definitely don't want to win is the Italy. Great goals today though. We will see what happens tomorrow. Portugal v France. I'd like France to win but that only means Portugal goes through. I think Portugal has the better side anyway. Either way should be a great final and a very good 3rd place match too. Soccer commerical on YouTube. I love the fact he has a beer in his hand. Men Rock. OK that was kinda gross to make up for it something very cute. Baby WC.
