These are great bands...for me to poop on. Posted by Picasa

This will be a link free post.

So about a week ago I called Cbro out on always giving positive reviews to everything he reviews on this site. Kudos to him for stepping up and naming a few artists whom he did not share love for. Now a couple of these were safe choices (American Idol?!), but I digress.

As for myself, I will list my dissappointments/never liked/just don't get it bands now.

1.) Coldplay.
I couldn't agree with Cbro more. This album was supposed to be the one to put them over the top?, Make them the biggest band in the world?, Their "Joshua Tree"?,...It isn't. The last two Coldplay albums were far superior and this one just bores me overall. The Doves and Snow Patrol do a better job at what Coldplay is trying to do.

2) Arcade Fire.
Everybody loves them. Aren't their stage antics cute? I even watched thier webcast from Lollapalooza...nothing. I have tried with these guys since last year. I just can't get into them. This band screams gimmick to me. The Hives of this year.

3) Greenday.
Again, what's the big fucking big deal? I like Greenday overall, but It's like people forgot about them since "Dookie", and 10 years later they come out with a politically themed "concept" album and now their genius. I liked some of the stuff since "Dookie", but this album seems bland, overproduced and just beyond their reach. Stick to 3 minute punk/pop songs.

4) Dave Matthews Band
Anyone who knows me knows that DMB is a favorite target of mine, but at least in the past their records showed a decorum of creativity. Dave's got a great live band, I'll give them that, but the new disk seems like just a stopgap to continue their endless touring schedule.

5) Billy Corgan
This album sucks...bad. You want your band back Billy? I hope for your sake you get them back...quickly.

Now that that nasty business is taken care of we can go back to the lovefest that is A Glorious Mess .

Tonight I will bare witness to a fantastic double bill, The Kings Of Leon/Secret Machines show pairs up what may be my two favorite new bands of the last couple of years. I have seen both before and expect an excellent show.

News Corp. (NYSE:NWS - news) on Monday said it would buy Intermix Media Inc.(AMEX:MIX - news), owner of the popular MySpace.com social networking site, for$580 million in a move to expand the media conglomerate's Internet offerings.
The deal comes after News Corp., home to the Fox television network, Fox Newsand 20th Century Fox film studios, announced on Friday the creation of anInternet division to hold the company's sports, news and entertainment sites.
News Corp. will pay $12 a share, a 12 percent premium over Intermix's closingprice on the American Stock Exchange on Friday. Intermix shares rose 9.5percent to $11.74 in Monday trading.
"For a company with a market capitalization of over $50 billion and $6 billionin cash on their balance sheet, to pay $580 million for the fifth most widelyviewed domain, that strikes me as reasonable," said Natexis Bleichroederanalyst Alan Gould.
"With a significant amount of advertising dollars moving from traditionaloutlets to online, News Corp., like most media companies, is looking to boostits Internet assets," Gould added.
Online advertising is expected to be the fastest growing category for nationaladvertisers, up 15 percent to $7.9 billion this year, according to media buyingfirm Universal McCann.
MySpace.com is the most popular of the once-trendy social networking sites, which allow people with common interests to seek dates, friendship andprofessional relationships.
Google Inc. (Nasdaq:GOOG - news), for its part, has a social networking sitecalled Orkut. Yahoo Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) has made social networking a partof its Yahoo 360 networking tool.
"The thing about MySpace is that it's a growing audience," said JupiterResearch analyst David Card. "Its users are pretty loyal. They get a lot oft ime spent on their pages. And the personal information they get from users ispretty reliable because they want to meet people. One would think thisinformation would be pretty useful to advertisers."
Intermix, which had $24.1 million in revenue in its fiscal fourth quarter, willbecome part of News Corp.'s newly created Fox Interactive Media.

Mess with me will ya

OK...it may seem as if I love everyone and everything. Hey I grew up in the Midwest. I am a lover not a fighter. I am a uniter not a divider (and mean it unlike some people) but Don't get me started on the so called Southern Hospitality. Honestly don't say "bless your heart" around me. Sorry about that but I do have some venom in me--HM you know me well enough to know that.

So you wanted a few CDs of not so good. Here you go.

1. Coldplay. They wanted this LP to be their OK Computer or Kid A but they aren't that good so they dish out the same crap part 3. Don't get me wrong it is not a bad CD but I have already heard it twice before and both of their prior CDs are better. Sorry. They are. They want to be bigger than U2...they have a long way to go with me. Right now they are just glammed up David Grays. In fact, I bet David Grays new CD (coming out soon) will be listened to more than this at least by me. And don't even get me started on APPLE. Seriously. Apple? You are a dumbass.

2. I have never watched an American Idol. I don't listen to AI winners. I just can't but here at number two I put in that BO guy. I saw him on the Daily Show and didn't really like the way he came across but Jon Stewart said he like Bo's singing. I really hope he was just blowing smoke up the young man's ass because I have to knock Jon down a notch or two if that is how he really feels. Now I will also tell you that this review is based on iTunes 30 second preview but I did listen to "Inside your heaven". Truthfully it isn't better than anything done by Winger. Winger people Winger. Boy am I glad I have never watched an American Idol and deep down you wish you could say the same thing. Go take a shower(and bring a beer in with you or better yet a bottle of Patron)-- you will feel better and remember you don't have to watch "reality" TV.

3. Willie just because you like to "Burn One Down" does not make you a reggae star. Next time wouldn't someone please have the balls to tell Willie that it just isn't a good idea. Even if he fires you...you will sleep better at night. Maybe he was to busy watching that Jessica Simpson video of "these boots are make for walking" he was in to notice just how bad things were going. Jessica was gushing about working with Willie I bet this reggae thing was her idea. Or maybe Nick got jealous and planted the seed one night when he was getting high with him. That actually would be pretty cool if that were the case.

4. The Kaiser Chiefs. They are the front runners in the Mercury Prize running. Really? They have a couple of good tunes...but album of the year I think not. Aren't these the same people that awarded Gomez the M prize many moons ago?

5. This one hurts but I have a feeling that is what HM wanted so here it goes. Ben Folds. Silverman is actually decent but not for Ben. I want him to Rock my Suburbs with witty, funny, thought-provoking tunes that have hooks. That is all I want from him. I know this is my problem and not the CDs. Don't expect too much and you'll never be disappointed. I have this proudly in my collection next to the rest of his catalogue but honestly when I am in the mood for Mr. Folds I will grab any of his other CDs except this one. I am sad now.

More later--I know there are plenty more but this should give you an idea.

I just bought some of this...seriously, I did. Posted by Picasa

A hot summer night post

It has been a crazy few weeks, new job, new domicile and all the madness that comes with it.

In the spirit of mixing things up I decided to antagonize Cbro a bit. It seems he has nothing but glowing reviews for every disc he encounters. I know he must not like some records that come out, at least feel some are overrated, so I put the question to you Cbro. What are your LEAST favorite disc of the year? The reasons can be just because it didn't grab you, you didn't give it a chance, or perhaps the lead singer keyed your car, I don't care. I will respond in kind when I hear your list.

While no official statement has been made it appears that Cream (Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce) will perform three shows at New York City's Madison Square Garden on October 24, 25 and 26. These gigs will be the band's first United States shows since disbanding in 1968. These shows will come on the heels of Cream's May reunion at London's Royal Albert Hall. With the exception of the band's 1993 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the Royal Albert shows were the group's first gigs since breaking up.

Iggy Pop didn't just invent punk — on his albums The Idiot and Lust For Life (produced by David Bowie), he invented post-punk as well, and dipped his toes in metal, dance pop, art rock and even jazz. A Million In Prizes: The Anthology is a near-definitive two-disc compilation of Iggy's most memorable moments on record, and it captures his influence, fury and intelligence with commendable accuracy.

Pixies ready for an album.

(antiMusic - Trent McMartin Special Report) Foo Fighter frontman Dave Grohl spoke candidly recently to Austin Scaggs of Rolling Stone about his relationship with the late Kurt Cobain. When asked why Cobain or Nirvana made him feel so insecure, Grohl replied, “When I joined Nirvana I was the fifth or sixth drummer -- I don’t know if they’d ever had a drummer they were totally happy with. And they were strangers. There was never much of a deeper connection outside of the music.”
The usually private Grohl has never really publicly discussed Cobain at such great length as he does in this interview touching upon various topics as Cobain’s sometime dissatisfaction with Grohl’s drumming, the pressure of being in Nirvana, the MTV Unplugged performance and the time leading up to Cobain’s death.
Grohl’s other famous band The Foo Fighters are currently out on the road supporting their latest release, the double album In Your Honor, which hit number two on the billboard album charts. The band is currently on tour. The band will be kicking off its Canadian tour next month before heading out to Europe.

Press Release reports: In addition to being the guitarist for one of the most influential and beloved bands of all-time, PIXIES' guitarist Joey Santiago is forging a career in television. Over the past few months in-between Pixies' reunion dates, Santiago has been holed up in the studio scoring the original music for "Weeds," the new Showtime original comedy series that debuts August 10. "Weeds" stars Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins and Kevin Nealon, and looks at "typical" family life in the suburban neighborhood of Agrestic, CA where recently-widowed Nancy Botwin (Parker) makes ends meet by becoming the neighborhood pot dealer.
"This is a lot of fun and something I can continue to do when I'll embarrass my kids by being on stage," joked Santiago. "Scoring a TV series is a lot different than playing in a band, the pace and deadlines are completely different, but once you get into the groove, it's really great."
Hailed as "the most talked-about comedy in ages" by Newsweek, "Weeds" will air on Showtime Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00PM.

Since Naught has reminded me about movies I thought I would inform you of the last two Netflix viewings I have had. The Machinist. Wow Christian. I am sure most of you know that Bale lost 60 lbs to play the role but it is more than that. It is a slow movie but in a good way. think Noir with a bit of Momento. It's moody. The other was The Boondock Saints. If you like Ultraviolent movies put this is your queue. I was surprised at how good it was. Plus it has Willem DaFoe in Drag.

Some day there'll be a cure for pain and that's the day I throw my drugs away

In case you missed it or just want to relive it. Live 8 video.

This vid makes me sad. I think. Or try the lego version.

What's wrong with this photo...no not the mullet. Lower.

13 over-rated songs.

Guns Germs and Steel a 3 part PBS series.

The title is from Morphine's "Cure for pain". Rarely do I use a refrain for the title but I love this song. I love the line and I Loved the group and I am telling you that you must...must have this CD in your collection.

I just saw this on Good Morning America the Weekend edition.
Sport Jelly Belly Beans. Candy that is kinda good for you and a bit more off the abc website about "sport candy"

and this is pretty cool. London's underground logo reworked after the terrible bombing. Bloody Brillant. Or this one. We're not afraid.

Cleveland Rocks or at least this video playing grandma. Not sure it is real but really who cares.

I'd rather have hope than saddness

Gigs cancelled after London Bombing.

Concert tickets cost up...sales down. Speaking of concerts Dane Cook is coming to NYC. If you don't know this funny man--change that. See you at the Thursday show at MSG. When clicking on his site turn up the V. Safe for work as he bleeps out the bad words.

New technology cool but most still use the tried and true ways of getting their music. This is going to change very soon. 5 years?

I can name that tune...for a price. Another article on a subject I've linked to before.

time to do something to take back the game. If you are sick of a player that has forgotten that he is living a charmed life then let the world know via a petition. This player sucks.

Now this is true love or why didn't I think of this...well maybe cuz I'm sane? Maybe.

The Aquabats...a very different band. Think Gwar done by Disney doing ska.

I think I found a pic of HM playing putt putt golf...get it HelperMonkey...nevermind although I have always found that the best jokes are the ones you need to explain.

HM already covered the poor coverage of Live 8 by MTV and as if they had read HM's post...Audio Aggression reports: MTV has apologized for its eminently interrupted coverage of July 2nd's Live 8 concerts, which was highly criticized for cutting away during Pink Floyd's performance, as well as excessive commercial breaks. MTV EVP Van Toffler told the L.A. Times that a re-edited version of the Live 8 broadcast is "not the craziest idea." He added, "Knowing what I know now, I probably would have made the decision to go commercial-free." Further proof that I indeed no longer need to ever watch the station again.

Have you been wondering who will replace Stern?...here's your golden god
Audio Aggression reports: Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth is being rumored as Howard Stern's replacement for Infinity Broadcasting's next radio star after "The King Of All Media" ends his run on FM radio. The rumor was started by Chaunce Hayden of Steppin' Out Magazine. Hayden had this to say in an online post:
"Howard Stern's successor has been found! It's none other than '80s rocker David Lee Roth. Infinity Broadcasting isn't commenting and Roth has been asked to keep mum until it's officially announced. But an inside source at Infinity has confirmed the signing.

Kudos to AOL for streaming all the performances live and for free from Live 8. By comparison MTV's coverage was incomplete and annoying. A true changing of the guard from a network that used to be on the cutting edge 20 years ago to the internet age of now. You can still check out all the Live 8 acts you missed at:

There it was...something beautiful--There it was...something wonderful

It's been a bit and hopefully everyone had a wonderful holiday. Did you celebrate the American way...by blowing something up? Well good for you.

Gilmour says that new LP sales will be donated. Highlight of the concert was far and away Floyd. Did Rog almost breakdown and cry? It was great. Well done boys. Looking forward to the dvd which I am sure is coming out soon but they better hurry...bootleg scum.

A challenge to Bono. and I think a pretty good idea too.

Music blogs are tastemakers for tastemakers. Makes sense kinda like preaching to the choir.

iPod shuffle price reduced.

This could be good or bad or just another reason to get XM or Sirius or hope that soon phones with be able to connect to internet radio...FCC to look at radio ownership.

Want to see original art by Hendrinx?

McDiddy uniforms?
MTV reports: First it was fresh fruit on the menu and a track suit for Ronald, but now McDonald's is looking to give its employees a makeover too. According to AdAge.com, the burger chain has been in preliminary talks with P. Diddy, Russell Simmons and Tommy Hilfiger about having their respective fashion houses spearhead an $80 million makeover aimed at turning the chain's bland uniforms into hip street gear young employees would be proud to wear.[

BBC reports: A musical based around the songs of pop group UB40 will open in their home city of Birmingham next year.
Twelve of the band's hits will feature in Promises And Lies, alongside new tracks written for the production.

misery children. cool odd paintings.

Timberlake a batman villian?

London gets 2012. I am kinda happy NYC didn't get it. It would have been cool but a major pain.

Want to know Martha's prison nickname? After reading this I am just shocked. Not one ounce of remorse and she is in total denial of doing anything wrong. What a megalo.

Mo Kin. 3 year old bangs on medal bars. Maybe it's just me but her smile makes me afraid.

Now for an idea that is way overdue ...cereal all the time any time...then again I am known to eat breakfast for dinner.

Growth of the USA. kinda cool interactive map of the hows and whens of the states of the US.

Travel with Ben Stein.

I think alot about you by Margo Guryan. and a song from Say Hi to Your Mom. and one last great "la la" song by the Starlight Mints called popsicle.
