CDs 9-23
I was at the Kings of Leon show. Thanks for the tickets Bill. You are my hero. It was a fine affair and these young lads are leaving the South behind and inching closer to U2 territory. They opened with "Crawl" my favorite off the cd. After hearing that the only song I really needed to hear was "The Bucket" and I would have been a very happy boy.
Molly's Chambers
I couldn't find "The Bucket" so here is a different live version.
OK. So great concert. Ears still ringing and head still buzzing. Now on to this week's CDs. Buckle up there is quite a lot of the good stuff.
TV on the Radio - Dear, Science
Off Kilter kings relax a bit and "wax on, wax off" and make their most coherent album.
Kings of Leon - Only By the Night
Looking to be the next U2 and could be. I miss some of the fun but this is high quality.
The Replacements - Second batch of Deluxe Editions
Tim, Pleased To Meet Me, Don't Tell A Soul, and All Shook Down. You already know how I feel about "All Shook Down" but if you are only going to buy one make it "Tim". The bonus' are a bit better but still my fav of these is "Pleased To Meet Me". So I am saying save "Don't Tell a Soul" until last.
Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue
Moving way beyond just a pretty face with a pretty voice. She is a full throttle song writer. Pure joy listening to this cd.
Blizten Trapper - Furr
The sun is going down so you throw this cd on. Like mellow Dylan, Neil or The Dead.
Metallica - Death Magnetic
yes this is late but holy balls it's like being in HS school and listening to "Master of Puppets" prior to our soccer match.
Others to check out. I told you there was a lot
Jackson Browne, Everlast and Cowboy Mouth and for your punk moods the All Girl Summer Fun Band. Alt-country/ Indie super group Golden Smog released a best of so if you missed them it's a nice time to play catch up.

The Replacements - Deluxe Editions
If you are only going to get one get "Let it Be" but if you don't know The Replacements or don't have all their cds go sell some of your plasma and get all of them.
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
They fit nicely between Radiohead's wild, not so experimental side and the Mainstream "safe rock" of Coldplay. This is a another sophisticated, well produced, indie pop cd.
The Weepies - Hideaway
I have said it before and will say it again. Chick music that guys can and should listen too.
Jonathan Richman - Because Her Beauty is Raw and Wild
Another strange, compelling, and very beautiful cd from the strange and compelling songwriter. Get to know this man. This is cd number 20.
I am Kloot - Play Moolah Rouge
Another under appreciated songwriter.
Flight of the Concords -
New Zealand "Funny Funk Folk"
Enjoy and more later

The Replacements - All Shook Down

Another Lost Treasure...in fact some might argue a Lost Band.
Let’s start this thing off by saying if for some reason you don’t have all three of the holy trinity of ‘Mats CDs then you need to remedy that right now. It’s a perfect trifecta. “Let it Be”, “Tim”, and “Pleased to Meet Me” should be in each and every CD collection. Murmur by REM was released in ’83 and the ‘Mats perfection was recorded during that same time(’84 to ’87). Green came out in "88. How did REM get sooo huge while The Replacements watched the world pass them by? You might know the stories and if not search them out. There are some truly wonderful Rock N Roll stories. The Replacements really have no one but themselves to blame but that doesn’t change the fact that we have the chance to “do it right” now. If your favorite radio station plays more REM songs then Replacement songs something is terribly wrong. Call them. Email them and ask them why they don’t love music.
Ok enough of that little rant. So this is a lost Treasures CD review and obviously I can’t pick one of the big three so I picked “All Shook Down”. It is basically the first solo Paul Westerberg CD. The CD sounds like an almost defeated Paul. I think by this time he knows that The Replacements should have and/or could have but didn’t. This CD is not classic sounding Replacements it’s the perfect ending that knows that it is an ending. It is full of med tempo rockers and low key acoustic numbers. It’s a good CD to listen to when the party has ended but you are not ready to call it a day. You want to hang on to the buzz and kick back with one last beer -- or maybe two so that you can slowly pull on the beers and hear the entire CD. All I am saying is give Paul a chance.
