Heading to Chicago

for a long weekend. So if you are in Chi-Town and want to meet up at the Map Room I will be there on Friday night. It used to be my watering hole but now that I live in NY its a bit hard to venture there often. Looking forward to renewing an old friendship. See you tomorrow night. Whats the cask conditioned ale this week?

Nirvana v Pearl Jam. The debate continues.

Short Skirt Long Jacket by Cake. How do you feel about? The New York version. C'mon it has the naked cowboy in this video.

Free Albums galore. Free. Full Albums. Galore. Many. Enjoy and your welcome.

Beatles number one. Sorry Pepper is good but Revolver is much better.

Now for something completely different. Hot Dog infused Vodka.

Sarah Silverman. Not always funny but this song is quite enjoyable. German Cars. The opposite of FUBU. Watch out because she does drop the N word.

NEXT WEEK 18

NEXT is a new music show that plays on 107.1 The Peak in New York's Backyard. You can stream it at The Peak's website. It is also brought to you by the music loving people at Snapple. A Big Thanks to them. NEXT is on tonight at 11 and repeats on Sunday Night at 8. Thanks for listening and the hope is you find something that turns you on like when you were a giddy school girl or boy. Also remember that NEXT is an iMix. Go to the iMix page at iTunes and search for an iMix titled "next week 18". Every week is there. Enjoy.

On to the The playlist.

Razorlight – In the Morning (self titled)
A great second cd and that’s not easy to do

Gin Blossoms – Long Time Gone (Major Lodge Victory)
It doesn’t seem like 10 since the last Gin blossoms album. If liked them then you will enjoy this release

Midlake – Roscoe (The Trials of Van Occupanther)
What if Thom Yorke grew up in Texas and listened to Wings then fronted the Band Grandaddy. This a quiet and stunning cd.

La Rocca – This Life (The Truth)
4 lads from Ireland. Where is their name from? a favoured watering hole, the La Rocca cocktail bar, as the band themselves state on their myspace page “you'll understand why once you meet us.”

Kaiser Chiefs – I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Help: A Day in The Life)
A charity cd and follow up to the War Child. The thought was a bunch of bands would go into a studio for 24 hours and punch something out. It raised money to help war torn countries.

TV on the Radio – Wolf Like Me (Return to Cookie Mountain)
New York band has made one of those cds. You know a cd that in 50 years you will rediscover and still think it is amazing. Like most of those cd it takes time. You need to listen numerous times. Need another selling point. David Bowie is a huge fan and lends and hand on one track.

Silversun Pickups – Little Lover’s So Polite (Carnavas)
Those in search of ravishing rock that can provide a sonic high need look no further than Carnavas. Carnevas is in homage to a side of my family that will soon be extinct---it's their maiden name, it's Greek

The Zutons – Why Don’t Your Give Me Your Love? (Tired of Hanging Around)
Formed in 2001 Before they knew it the band was being hailed as one of the leaders of a new musical renaissance for Liverpool, the city that gave the world The Beatles (oh, and Mel C from the Spice Girls). A band to watch and a band to remember.

Joan Jett – AC/DC (Sinner)
Joan Jett—punk godmother. Strange but true. She is almost 50 and this is her 24th album Its like the Seinfeld eposide. You need to pick a team otherwise its cheating.

Kaki King – Gay Sons of Lesbian Mothers (…Until We Felt Red)
She started playing guitar at age 5. This is her third cd and the first with her voice add to a few tracks. Sonicly much different probably thanks to John McEntire (Tortoise and Sea and Cake)

The Aggrolites –Love Isn’t Love (self titled)
This LA band calls it Dirty Reggae. Think reggae teamed up with Punk/ska or Wilson Picket backed by the Meters.

I went to the movies

So I almost feel like a normal person. I went to the movies. Now I love the movies but my life is all Netflix. I went to go see Little Miss Sunshine. It was wonderful. Great movie. If you think your family is messed up...you will enjoy this film. Alan Arkin was pitch perfect. He ate up the screen. Also, via Netflix, of course, I highly recommend Brick and The Libertine. Brick has underground hit like Donnie Darko written all over it. It sums up high school and blends it with Micky Spillane. Brilliantly done. Lags only once and has my favorite soundtrack since American Beauty. The Libertine is Depp at his most outsider. Great role and really only Depp could play it.

Tom Waits opens the vault and finds three cds worth of orphans. Me Happy.

PR reports:
Following the release of their fourth critically acclaimed full-length, Z, My Morning Jacket is about to release what is surely to become their quintessential body of work: Okonokos, a 2-disc live recording and concert film capturing MMJ in all their glory. CD release Sept 26; DVD release Oct. 31 -- ATO/RCA Records

The Clash Singles Boxset.

iPods at War. This is your daddys war and this war wouldn't have it's own movie like Good Morning Vietnam.

When I grow up...perfect. Via YouTube an ad for Monster. YouTube shouldn't get all the fun. Lets do the Jimi thing...Hendrix on google video.

Still they made me do the stupid human tricks

The 25 most important questions of your life time. Enjoy.

Chad Vader. Classic. YouTube of course.

Do we really need this? iCarta. Yes.

Willie and Ryan get their groove on. Nelson and Adams record together.

Lost Crowes. New "old" crowes coming out soon.
Twice The Black Crowes have recorded albums that were never officially released: Tall in 1993 and Band in 1997. While a few songs from these lost albums were rerecorded and released on studio albums, many have emerged only through the band's legendary live shows. The Black Crowes recently went into the vault, collecting the best moments from those abandoned sessions for a special treat for their longtime fans. Titled The Lost Crowes, it is a two-disc set of unreleased music that has been remixed for its public debut on Rhino. The compilation will be available August 29. The same day, the band's 1992 home video, Who Killed That Bird Out On Your Window Sill, will make its DVD debut on Rhino Home Video.

Did Rick Rubin turn Cash Cheesey? Slate finds out.

TuneLab reports:
The newly reunited Smashing Pumpkins have entered the studio with producer Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Cars, Journey, Cheap Trick) to record their first album since 1999

back

Had a great and wonderful time with the fam. I barely changed out of my bathing suit. Jetski...booze cruise on a pantoon. Did play a round of golf. First time in three years. I think I may have just been talked into more golf. My brother in law said "you have to play. You're a guy. It is expected and a it's a free pass to drink beer. If you just said 'I'm going to the bar' and didn't come home for 5 hours you'd be in trouble. With golf that's part of the game" Count me in.

So back to it.

10 strange monuments. Some of these are great.

Great beers according to mens style.

Have you ever wondered what it would look like to watch Back to future 1 and 2 at the same time of the same scene? No...well watch this and then ask yourself why you never thought about doing this before. Very cool. Great movie making.

Rock quiz. Harder then you think. Good luck.

If you know where Elvis is you could get a bit of cash.

NEXT: a new music show--- week 15

Hello and welcome to week 15's playlist for NEXT. You can listen at 1071thepeak.com. You can also find other fun facts there too. NEXT is sponsored by Snapple. Thank you Snapple. NEXT is also an iMix. Head to iTunes and search for an iMix named "next week 15" and it should get you there. Any problems just email.

WEEK 15 of NEXT:
Golden Smog – Another Fine Day (Another Fine Day)
It’s been 8 years since the last Golden Smog get together. Recorded in Spain and in Minnesota. Because of the busy schedule of the five members it could be another 8 years before another Smog cd so enjoy this one.

Guster – Manifest Destiny (Ganging up on the Sun)
No longer a trio. No longer does the drummer play with his hands but they sound better then ever.

Richard Buckner – Town (Meadow)
the 8th full-length. Love that voice – a soothing drawl that’s somehowhaunting and buoyant all at once. Due out in Sept

Ryan Adams – Black Clouds (Unreleased Song-Piety Street Studios New Orleans)
I know this song has been out there for awhile but it has never officially been released so I hope you’ll forgive me for not playing an entirely new track but that wouldn’t last for long. From the man himself "First record is getting mixed and mastered while we are on the road. Its the first of three. Its solo. Its called "Blackhole". Johnny on drums, me on everythinbg else. lots of raw guitar and kinda sexy/ damaged tunes. My favorite easily."

Sexy + damaged + Ryan Adams = some of my favorite songs in the world

My Morning Jacket with Eddie Vedder – It Makes No Difference (Band Cover)
My Morning Jacket Live at Continental Airlines Arena on (June 3, 2006) My Morning Jacket recently trekked to Woodstock, N.Y., to record a cover of the Band's "It Makes No Difference" for a star-studded Band tribute album, due Jan. 9 via Savoy Jazz. The catch: the song was put to tape at the studio of the Band's drummer, Levon Helm, bringing MMJ's members face to face with one of their musical idols.

The New Tragedies – Lipstick Kiss (VanityVanity)
The New Tragedies are a married couple (Aaron and Bev Weidner) doing the chilled out indie-rock thing (with a pinch of alt-country). Tons of info and a full stream of the new record over at http://www.thenewtragedies.com/.

Fink – Pretty Little Thing (Pretty little thing ep)
Mellow Folky blues not too unlike Everlast…Great tune about one moment in life. Just seeing that person walk by—you’ve seen the type. Not sure where he got the name Fink but if it’s from Barton Fink I will be that much more impressed.

Los Lonely Boys – My Loneliness (Sacred)
fans may want to shell out the additional $6-$7 and pick up the deluxe edition that features a DVD of live performances and behind the scenes studio bits.

The Sounds – Ego (Dying to Say This To You)
This is a put the top down and head down to the beach kind of cd. They are from Sweden and this is their second cd and it seems to me they have found their voice.

The Raconteurs – Store Bought Bones (BBC Sessions)
In Jack White news look for the White stripes to air on the Simpsons on Sept 17th. In the eposide Bart attempts to become a jazz drummer. The band now calls Nashville home. Also during this BBC session they recorded a Bowie cover that they are including on their next single”Hands”

James Hunter – People Gonna Talk (People Gonna Talk)
Sam Cooke- and Jackie Wilson-influenced vocals and the band’s fat horn-driven rhythm & blues should remind 21st century audiences the joys of early American soul music and rhythm & blues. If you like this look for his debut album which is being re-released it’s called “Believe what I say”
