Next Week 23
So last night went to Watercolor Cafe to see Mike Viola perform. He was great. He told great stories and pulled a Springsteen and played more than two hours. Good time had by all.
Next is a new music show at 1071thepeak.com. You can stream it from the website. It plays Wednesday nights at 11 and repeats on Sunday nights at 8. NEXT is brought to you by Snapple. Thank you good people at Snapple.
The Playlist for NEXT:
The Hold Steady – Chips Ahoy (Boys and Girls in America)
This will be their third cd. They still sound like a great bar band and yes that’s a good thing
Pete Yorn – Alive (Nightcrawler)
Jersey-born singer/songwriter’s third cd. I feel like he is going backwards and if you are new to him you might want to start at the beginning too.
Kasey Chambers – I Got You Know (Carnival)
One the most gifted artists on Australia has stretched her wings on cd number 4. She is still a little bit country but this time with quite a bit of rock and roll.
Electric Six – Devil Nights (Senor Smoke)
To get you in the mood for Halloween…Detroit style well actually Electric Six style. The Band calls its music “disco Metal” Whatever you’d like to call it’s really just plain old fun music. Cotton Candy Music if you wish.
The Black Crowes – The Night They Drove Ol’ Dixie Down (Freak N Roll…into the fog)
Now what on earth could that mean? Into the fog? Double live cd. Recorded at the Fillmore and they closed with this tune.
Clem Snide – Grow Me Up (Suburban Field Recordings)
They have finished a new cd but have no label so hopefully it will find a home soon. Comedy Central has tapped '90s alt-heroes Superchunk to headline a concert marking the 10th anniversary of The Daily Show. The Daily Show Presents: Ten F#@king Years (The Concert), is set to take place November 16 at Irving Plaza in New York City and will also feature performances by Clem Snide, the Upper Crust and “a super secret fourth band to be announced later
Bob Dylan – Ain’t Talkin’ (Modern Times)
44 albums and 65 years I don’t think I can add much to what you already know. Of the so called trilogy this one is my least favorite.
Chris Holmes – I Don’t Care What My Friends Say (Get Yer Yum-Yum’s Out)
A one way ticket to happy sunbeams and lazy afternoons. You will play this cd years from now and think “remember that one summer…”
Barenaked Ladies – Take It Back (Barenaked Ladies Are Me)
BNL is all growz up. Well mostly. We noticed a their mature nature on Everything to Everyone and cd number 7 builds on this path.
Yo La Tengo – The Race Is On Again (I am not afraid of you and I will kick your ass)
This album finds Yo La Tengo at the top of their game and all over the place. 10 minute plus jams, rockers, pop masterpieces. This band is if Sonic Youth and Fleetwood Mac got married and had a kid then that kid married NRBQ. That is what they sound like. I think.
Camera Obscura – I Can’t Stay Mad At You (Let’s Get Out of this country)
But this song is actually the bside to their single Lloyd I’m ready to be heartbroken. If you want a quick cd review of their latest cd …enchanting and beautiful.
Wednesday is all about good music people. I hope your show went well Megs.
More later

the radio show went alright today. i started to trip up a little on my selections. let's just say i played a song that didn't exactly fit in the set and it dragged a bit too much.
now about what you're playing tonight...
i'm excited to hear the casey chambers song! the electric six are the awesome. i have their stuff, very funny band and good live shows might i add. i <3 the black crows, then again, who doesn't! and i must hear this camera obscura b-side. "Lloyd" was my song this past late spring/early summer.
Hope you liked it...I am really into the new Chambers and the new live Crowes. "Lloyd" should be huge and in everyone's collection somewhere.
