NEXT Week 40

You can listen to NEXT tonight at 11pm at 107.1 The Peak. Stream it at 1071thepeak.com. Next is sponsored by Snapple. Thank you Snapple. It's an iMix too. I will link to that at the bottom.

Thanks for listening

Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby (Yours Truly, Angry Mob)
The follow-up to their 2005 debut, Employment. Recorded in six weeks. I predict top twenty by the end of the year.

Citizen Cope – All Dressed Up (Every Waking Moment)
3rd cd of blues and rock, while incorporating hip-hop tendencies

Locksley – Don’t Make Me Wait (Don’t Make Me Wait)
4 guys from Madison WI now call Brooklyn home. Jump on this bandwagon now. They have already shot a commercial. This CD is for fans of The Kinks or Small Faces. I am talking with them right now and soon we will be doing a concert if you’d like to see them email and let me know.

The Comfies – That’s What She Gets (Close to Me EP)
7 songs from Nashville Tennessee but don’t call them power pop as front man Ben Harper (no not that Ben Harper—I bet he has never heard that before) anyway He hates the phrase power pop so I guess we’ll call it…accelerated uptempto pop with great melodies.

The Smithereens – Don’t Bother Me (Meet the Smithereens Beatles Tribute)
For their first effort in more than seven years, the New Jersey power-poppers recorded their own version of Meet the Beatles!, from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to "Not a Second Time." The album only lasts 28 minutes long, but it's a fitting salute to the classic album that celebrates its 43rd birthday.

The Swimmers – Goodbye (Fighting Trees)
Indie pop from Philadelphia. 3 guys and girl-- in fact a husband wife team. The cd will be released soon but you can stream it at their website theswimmers.com

Los Lobos – Don’t Ask Why (The Town and the City)
This might surprise you only if for some reason you only think of Los Lobos as that La Bamba band but Los Lobos have released yet another gem that is overlooked. You will play this cd for the rest of your life.

Shade – Wide Eyed (Arms Raised on Rooftops)
Another band that is coming for a concert just for NEXT (kinda like the Peak Performances) email me if you’d like to come. This band is from Pittsburgh PA. 5 guys bearing the torch of shoe gazer or space rock.

Stars of Track and Field – Say Hello (Centuries Before Love and War)
I am addicted to this tune. Stars Of Track And Field, a three-piece outfit who take their name from a Belle & Sebastian song, want to join the likes of The Decemberists, Sleater-Kinney, The Shins and Elliot Smith and become the next hot act from Portland, Oregon. And if reviews of their Centuries Before Love And War debut LP are any indication, they're well on their way.

Wilco – Is That the Thanks I Get? ( New CD)
The next Wilco record will be called Sky Blue Sky and is coming out on May 15th.

Cold War Kids – Tell Me In the Morning (Robbers and Cowards)
A cross between Tom Waits and The Shins? Well Tom Waits if he sang in a falsetto actually now that I think on it I guess it would be more Jeff Buckley. Anyway…Sign me up. They are from Long Beach CA and before this full length they released 3 eps.

Jaymay – Gray or Blue (Sea Green, See Blue EP)
Singer song writer based in NY and started out playing open mics around the city. Simply put this EP is a quiet undiscovered gem just waiting to be found.

More later
