I was listeing to london calling the other night while doing homework. As a music geek, I realize that I have taken the clash way too much for granted. I mean sure they are "the only band that matters" but I didn't really consider why they have that title. After listening to London Calling straight through for the first time (instead of just skipping through some tracks and listening to others), My reaction was "wow. this is solid and brillant."
I might have to add that singles compliation to my wish list.
As for the JAMC, I love them. I didn't start listening to them until I was a freshman in college. For some reason, it took me a while to find their music and I can proudly say it wasn't through the movie Lost in Translation. Though I do love that film. Just the other day, I found WMUC's copy of Darklands. It was on vinyl and was an original promo copy. I just smiled and wondered who all have recently played this.
Hey I don't care how people get to Jesus and Mary Chain I am just glad they get there. I still remember coming out of a job interview (that didn't go all that well)and as soon as the I started my car out of the speakers blares "Never Understand". I couldn't have scripted a better song or moment.
I can't add anything to the Clash dialogue. They are/were amazing.
I'm glad you don't care. Everyone at WMUC seem to. I never thought college radio would be a competition! A few people at the station have alluded that the only reason I listen to jamc is because of lost in translation, which is far from the truth. I was listening to them months before I finally watched that movie, when it first came out on dvd. I'll gladly give credit to vh1 classic for showing their music videos and to the ravonettes for trying to sound like them.
ps- i really liked your story. music definately has a funny way of summing up everything before you can even say a word.
