a rockier, edgier version of the Lemonheads. It’s not exactly what you might call a ‘dark’ album but definitely sweet on the outside, but sour on the inside.

Destroyer – Watercolours Into The Ocean (Destroyer’s Rubies)
Dan Bejar has issued forth another batch of his songwriting wealth, Bejar has cultivated quite the cult following with his folk-pop anthems. "The goal was to make a jazz record recorded completely live off the floor," Bejar revealed about Rubies. "The inevitability of not realizing this goal became apparent far before we reached the studio, which is good cause it's bad to have goals." You hear that, kids? Goals are bad. By virtue of his Canadian citizenship, Bejar has of course involved himself in an avalanche of side projects. Beyond the work in New Pornographers, DB hopes to unleash a record by his band Bonaparte and started practicing with a new duo, Hello Blue Roses

Owen – Bad News (At Home With Owen)
In the past decade, Chicago's Mike Kinsella has played a variety of instruments in a handful of bands including Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, The One Up Downstairs, American Football, Owls, Maritime, and Aloha. Owen is his solo project. This is his 4th solo cd.

Califone – Sunday Noises (Roots and Crowns)
How many bands come back from the brink of break-up to produce some of their best and most innovative work? A mainstay of the Chicago experimental scene, Califone plays wistful songs with a constant, thin hum of dark and lush melodies, and hushed vocals.
