NEXT is sponsored by Snapple. Thank you Snapple.
Moonbabies – war on sound
You might recognize the song from Grey’s Anatomy. Decent show with a great soundtrack.
Pearl Jam – marker in the sand
Angry energy of the first few albums combined with the musical prowess of their late period. Just because PJ didn’t do what you wanted them to do doesn’t mean this CD is a comeback. I hope REM is taking notes
I love you but I have chosen darkness – according to plan
This cd would be perfect on 120 minutes if you remember that show on MTV. You would think they are from Manchester not texas. Greatest Moniker…ever. Also search for their 2002 ep with Brit Daniels of Spoon producing.
Raconteurs –steady as she goes acoustic
They are having fun. That’s nice to hear also Jack just had a baby and he didn’t name it anything werid I guess since Apple was already taken he went with Scarlett
Black Angels – Bloodhounds on my trail
Another band from Austin. Did you listen to the secret machines cd and think I wish there was a band out there that was kinda like them but heavier and darker and a wee bit trippy. Ok very trippy.
Jenny lewis and the Watson twins – You are what you love
Front lady of Rilo Kiley turns into Indie rock Dolly parton.
The boy least likey to – be gentle with me (The best party ever)
Don’t be fooled by the cover art—looks very kid albumish. It’s not. CD just gets better with each listen.
Gnarls Barkley – Gone daddy gone cover of Violent femmes (St Elsewhere)
Danger Mouse is at it again. You might remember him from the Grey album the mashup of the Beatles White LP and Jay Z’s Black LP. He also hangs out with Gorillaz—the cartoon side project from Blur front man Damon Albarn. This time he teams up with CEE – LO a rapper that help develop the Dirty South sound to create a magical cd
Guillemots – Trains to Brazil (ep from the cliffs)
The Guillemots may be based in the U.K., but if ever there was such a thing as an international band, they're it. Consisting of a British frontman, a Scottish drummer, a Brazilian guitarist and a Canadian on double-bass
named after a cliff-dwelling sea bird
Widespread panic – second skin (Earth to America)
The Panic capture what their live show sounds like on this song. Hopefully the rest of the album follows through. When the cd comes out it will also be available on vinyl with 2 bonus tracks not on the cd.
Augustana – lonely people (all the stars and boulevards)
After growing up on the West Coast, lead singer Dan Layus landed at Greenville College in Illinois and met like-minded people (musically speaking.) They started playing together and christened themselves Augustana which is thought to be Latin for 'a small glimpse of hope.' ("We're not 100% sure of this," says Dan with a laugh. "We've tried researching it.")
Remember NEXT is an iMix. Search for an iMix named “Next week 3”
Eddie Vedder helps out Ben Harper on Indifference. YouTube. One more YouTube. Human Beat box. Cut together very nicely. Oh why not one more. The Daily Show on Hayden/Goss.
More later
