Love's so deep--kills you in your sleep

We are all connected. Get ready to lose many an hour at band to band. It's 6 degrees with bands.

the band is Smoosh. They are 10 and 12 and not like the Hansen boys at all. Listen here to an MP3--Massive Curve. I don't have the whole CD but I think I may just have to order it right now.

Conan O'Brien mailed a questionnaire to some of America's biggest stars for a bit called 'Celebrity Survey' on Tuesday's 'Late Night'. Asked, "The biggest surprise at the Grammys was when...", Queen Latifah wrote back, "Maroon 5 beat out Kanye West." Mandy Moore wrote, "J.Lo and Marc Anthony sang a duet." Courtney Love wrote, "I threw up a shrimp. I don't remember eating shrimp."

McCartney, Super Bowl Ads Target Of FCC Complaints NEW YORK --
As clean as Paul McCartney's Super Bowl halftime show was, four people still found something to complain about to the Federal Communications Commission.
Mediaweek magazine says two people complained that McCartney's performance was too boring. Another two found drug references in one of his songs.
Eight people complained about the GoDaddy.com spot with the busty brunette. Pepsi was a target, too. One person didn't like Carson Kressley of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" checking out a hunk in the cola drink's ad.

Kid Rock Arrested; Slugged DJ For Playing Bad Music
Rapper initially runs away so he could 'sober up,' but ultimately surrenders without struggle. Kid Rock was arrested at a Nashville strip club early Wednesday morning after he allegedly slugged the DJ for spinning music he disliked. Rock was taken into custody at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (February 16) in handcuffs, with an officer holding his hat, and charged with simple assault (a misdemeanor, punishable by a up to a year in jail), according to The Associated Press. Bond was set at $3,000 and Rock remained in custody until bail was posted. The scuffle took place some time after 3 a.m. at Christie's Cabaret near downtown Nashville, police told the AP. Television footage showed the club's DJ, Jay Campos, standing outside the club, holding his broken eyeglasses and with a red mark on his face. "Inside the establishment, there was a squabble concerning - I guess - the selection of music," Sergeant James Smith of the Metropolitan Nashville Police said. "There are not major injuries, but an assault did take place. According to arresting officer Lieutenant Calvin Hullett, Rock snuck out the back door of a different strip club when authorities arrived to arrest him. Still, Hullett said Rock was "very cooperative" when he ultimately surrendered at an apartment where he had been staying. Rock reportedly told the police that he ran from them because he hoped to sober up before being booked. Nashville's NewsChannel5 reported that Rock asked reporters waiting to cover the story if his hair looked OK, and joked with arresting officers while waiting to see Night Court Commissioner Howard Tardash. "Everything is wonderful," Rock reportedly said when he left the Criminal Justice Center. "It was a beautiful night." Rock was in town for a Tuesday performance at a memorial service for songwriter and promoter Merle Kilgore. - Alyssa Rashbaum http://www.mtv.com

Rejoice! Springsteen prepares new, low-key LP
Still seriously-bloody-good American legend, Bruce Springsteen, is set to release a new record in the late spring. The album, purported to be called 'Devils and Dust' was recorded in the last few months with producer Brendon O'Brien. Boss fansite, Backstreets suggests that the album will be a return to Springsteen's acoustic 'The Ghost of Tom Joad' / 'Nebraska' sound. Fans will tell you that that is a good thing, as 'Nebrasaka' especially is totally ass kicking. Dude. The provisional tracklisting for 'Devils and Dust' - expected in April is: Devils and Dust All the Way Home Long Time Coming The Hitter All I'm Thinkin' About Reno Black Cowboys Maria's Bed Silver Palomino Jesus Was an Only Son Leah Matamoros Bank http://www.drownedinsound.com

Jimi Hendrix's Guitar Sells For 100,000
A guitar that belonged to the great Jimi Hendrix has sold for 100,000 at auction. The 1965 Fender Stratocaster was just one of many guitars that featured in an auction dedicated to the legendary guitar player. In an auction billed as one of the biggest collection of Hendrix memorabilia instruments, signed records and posters all went under the hammer at the Hard Rock Caf in London. The Jimi Hendrix Experience's first single Hey Joe, signed by the entire band, was sold for 2,000, reports the BBC. A poem written by Hendrix two weeks after his infamous appearance at the Monterey Festival where he set light to his guitar went for 10,000. The majority of items on sale at the auction were collected by Bob Terry who began collecting at the age of 17.

Jessica Simpson To Record Duet With Willie Nelson
Not yet determined which song the pop star and country legend will sing for 'Dukes of Hazzard' soundtrack. When MTV News went to visit Jessica Simpson on the set of "The Dukes of Hazzard," she let it slip that she really wanted to hook up with someone special - for the movie's soundtrack. "I've been really inspired to write some country stuff," she said. "It would be a lot of fun to step into the Shania Twain type of direction, just for the movie, just for fun. And I'm crossing my fingers to do something with Willie." That would be Willie Nelson, her co-star who plays Uncle Jesse to her Daisy Duke (see "On The 'Hazzard' Set With Jessica Simpson, Johnny Knoxville").
Simpson's wish has since come true - her spokesperson has confirmed that the singer will indeed record a duet with the country music legend, whom Simpson calls "absolutely unbelievable." There are no details yet about which song the two will tackle, or when they'll record it. There's also no word on whether the song will also appear on Simpson's next album, which she's indicated could have a bit of country flavor as well (see "Jessica Simpson Planning Workout Video, Listening To Bjork For Inspiration"). "I want to still keep it pop," she said in December, "but steer left a little bit. Maybe I'll put a little bit of country in there, maybe a little bit of jazz." Visit Movies on MTV.com for more from Hollywood, including news, interviews, trailers and more. - Jennifer Vineyard http://www.mtv.com

the rake.
Where are they now? or as HelperMonkey put it "If you have ever wanted to know what Corey Hart was up to." and
cdzlimited.com
It's basically a site where you can listen to entire albums -- thousands of them -- for absolutely free. The quality isn't too good, but it's good enough to help you decide if an album's worth buying or not -- because you can hear the whole thing, without commercial interruption or any of that kind of rubbish. I just discovered it tonight, and I've been listening to the entire Death Cab for Cutie catalog.
Thanks again HelperMonkey. Keep sending the good stuff.

Turn your handwriting into a font. I have yet to try it out but it looks cool.

Ozzy Osbourne's Prince of Darkness box set, originally set for release on February 8, will now hit shelves on March 22. The four-disc compilation, which is composed mainly of Ozzy's solo hits, will also feature newly recorded covers of songs by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and duets with such unlikely collaborators as Miss Piggy and the Wu-Tang Clan. I got this bit from MTV.com

R.E.M. Plot Double Disc Reissues (CD +DVD)
(Press release) R.E.M. fans will have a good reason to "Get Up" on March 1, the release day for reissues of the band's entire Warner Bros. catalog in deluxe two-disc editions offering loads of previously unavailable material. All nine CD/DVD combos (GREEN, OUT OF TIME, AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE, MONSTER, NEW ADVENTURES IN HI-FI, UP, REVEAL, IN TIME: THE BEST OF R.E.M., and AROUND THE SUN) will be available March 1 at all retail outlets and at www.rhino.com for a suggested retail price of $24.98 each.
Every R.E.M. reissue will consist of the album as it was originally released on one CD, plus a DVD with a 5.1 surround sound version of the album remixed by Grammy winning engineer Elliot Schiener, web links, an expanded booklet that features new liner notes and rarely seen archival photos, documentaries, and much more.
GREEN (1989) marked R.E.M.'s Warner Bros. debut and lifted the band to a new level of popularity, thanks to the hits "Pop Song '89," "Stand," and "Orange Crush." The bonus DVD includes an unreleased documentary video and two live performances from the "Tour Film" DVD.
OUT OF TIME (1991) continued to broaden R.E.M.'s audience with one of their biggest hit singles, "Losing My Religion," as well as "Shiny Happy People," and "Radio Song." The DVD includes the unreleased "Time Piece" documentary, which mixes band member interviews with commentaries about the songs.
With AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE (1992), the band achieved their greatest commercial success as well as one of their finest artistic statements. The CD contains the smash "Everybody Hurts," and the audience favorite "Man On The Moon." The DVD features a short film set in Athens, GA, made to support the release, which includes segments showing the band playing portions of songs in the studio.
MONSTER (1994) saw the band expanding its sound, creating an album featuring the aggressive rockers "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" and "Star 69," as well as the delicate "Tongue" and "Strange Currencies." This DVD offers interviews with the band and unreleased live performances of "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?," "Let Me In," and "I Don't Sleep, I Dream."
NEW ADVENTURES IN HI-FI (1996) showed the band pushing themselves even further artistically, offering a wide range of song styles with tracks like "E-bow The Letter," "Leave," "Bittersweet Me," and "Electrolite," many of which were recorded live at soundchecks on the Monster tour. The DVD features an unreleased video documentary.
UP (1998) found the band redefining itself after the departure of drummer Bill Berry. Songs like "Daysleeper" "At My Most Beautiful," and "Walk Unafraid" demonstrated that R.E.M.'s creative juices flowed unabated. The DVD includes extracts from the unreleased film "Uptake," featuring three songs and interview footage.
REVEAL's (2001) "Imitation Of Life," "All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star)," and "She Just Wants To Be" reflect a mood of contemplation and renewal in the best tradition of R.E.M.'s songwriting. This album's DVD includes a documentary about the album and the remixed video for "I'll Take The Rain."
IN TIME: THE BEST OF R.E.M. (2003) collects the band's best-loved tunes from the Warner Bros. years, as well as "All The Right Friends" (from the Vanilla Sky soundtrack) and the previously unreleased "Bad Day" and "Animal." The DVD includes the ground-breaking video for "Bad Day" in both the standard version and a multi-angle version shot at rehearsal in Seattle.
AROUND THE SUN (2004) the band's latest offering, includes the single "Leaving New York." The DVD includes lyrics, a photo gallery, and unreleased video footage.
Taken as a whole, these R.E.M. reissues prove the band to be one of the most artistically challenging of the last 25 years, constantly pushing themselves to grow with each new CD and careful not to repeat themselves, a band with "Drive."
The surround sound versions of these releases are playable on any DVD player. The advanced resolution audio is accessible on DVD-Audio equipment.

Not sure if I mentioned this

I found some PT work at a local station. A very good mainstream AAA in the burbs of NYC. AAA means nothing to you unless you are in radio. It stands for Adult Album Alternative. Simply put if you like rock and roll you will like this station. It wouldn't broaden your horizon too much--like I said it is rather mainstream. Not too hard. Not too soft. Just right. So anyway you can listen to me on Sundays 2 pm to 6 pm Eastern Time on the Peak. The Peak is on a playlist like every commerical radio station in the US so you can call or email requests but I probably wouldn't get a chance to play it. Although some hours do come up short and I can sneak a song or two in. You never know. So if you like what you hear let my boss know. Send an email to the studio demanding more Chris Bro. We are online so you could use Replay Radio and listen to me anytime you want. It is kinda like Tivo for your internet listening.

Thank You.

Last title from Francis Dunnery's "Too Much Saturn"

Big Thumbs up to the US National Soccer Team. Well done. Head down to T&T and get 3 points. Great start. Which reminds me. Germany in 2006 anyone? I know I am going. See you there.

Wow. Something to think about:

Over 58% of the 44,476 albums released in 2004, DIDN'T SCAN 100 UNITS
82% of all records released didn't scan 1000 units...
95% of all records released scanned less than 10,000 units.
Only 58 records (.013% of all releases) scanned 500,000 or more, accounting for 15% of overall business
Only 42 records (.09% of all releases) scanned 1,000,000 or more, accounting for 31.65% of overall business
Which of course leads me into Wilco is the Future of Music. Article at Wired.

It may not be a good song but it is funny. Homewrecker.

New Pornographers LP on the Way This Year

Jason Toon reports: With the professed influences of the Moody Blues, "middle period post-Gabriel Genesis," and "the vocal inflections on [10cc's] 'Dreadlock Holiday'," is Carl "A.C." Newman taking the New Pornographers into art-rock territory? Well, probably not, but Newman does brandish those avatars in a statement on Matador's website about the band's in-progress new album, which he guesses will be finished by mid-March and in stores by September, which is all rather impressive considering that Newman spent much of last year either recording or touring for his solo release, The Slow Wonder, which is a whole other kind of awesome.
Newman's "fascination" with combining an ebow and a baritone guitar to sound like a cello or a bowed guitar is also consonant with a possible art-rock orientation. But don't expect an ELP-style caravan of semis next time the Pornos come to town: Newman promises no actual cello player ("they take up too much room"), nor will they actually bow a guitar and end up "looking like a guitar-bowing idiot."
The other good news, in addition to the general lack of waiting, is that Neko Case and Nora O'Connor will both sing on the new record, and that Dan "Destroyer" Bejar is reportedly contributing much more to this record than on 2003's Electric Version. And Newman may be planning a dreadlock holiday of his own: "We're still trying to find a way to insert some dub/white reggae in the mix, just as an intellectual exercise, to see if we can do it without being dropped from the label." He telepathically hastened to add, "I know it sounds awful but it will all work out." -Pitchfork
See sometimes life is good. Very good.

We knew when the 20th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions were - now we know when we'll be able to see the ceremony. The event will be at New York's Waldorf Astoria on Monday March 14th. U2, the Pretenders, Buddy Guy, The Joy's and Percy Sledge will be inducted and all will play on stage. The event lasts anywhere from 4-6 hours. So VH1 will tape the whole thing, edit it down and show us the good stuff on Saturday March 19th at 9pm.

Record shows on line and listen as an MP3. Replay Radio.

A top five from KEXP dj John in the morning.
THE TOP 5 THINGS to do in response to the other day when I'm in line getting coffee and the person behind the counter is telling the woman in front of me "hello, what can I get you?" and she's busy dialing her phone and says "hold on". The man behind the counter looks at me and I look at him, neither of us sure what to do. She continues to dial and starts talking and when the man says "ma'am, can I help you?", She puts her hand up to silence him.

1. Move ahead of her in line and order my coffee explaining to the man behind the counter that he shouldn't kill himself because he has to deal with people like this all day

2. Wait until I'm sure she has someone on the line, get really close to the phone and scream "Listen, we only have this hotel for an hour, let's do this!!!"

3. Grab phone out of her hand, throw it across room, grab hot cup of coffee, toss it in her face and then run out of the door screaming "I'm the cell phone avenger! I'm the cell phone avenger"

4. Let her finish her call, which I'm sure is really important, let her order her coffee and then after she leaves make sure to get on my own phone and stand in front of her wherever she goes. When she get mad, make sure to do that nifty little hand in the air deal that she taught you earlier in the day

5.Remind her that its been proven that cell phones change your DNA make up and in her case it might be best if she used her phone more.

this beautiful. Steve Perry as well I wouldn't spoil the surprize. Enjoy.

I've never been to Vegas but I gambled all my life

the last title was a free download on iTunes from Bright Eyes called "When the President Talks to God"

So when your band was starting out you would never sellout. Then having your song in a movie was ok but never TV. Things are starting to change. TV playing some cool tunes.

Viral ads. Fake ads spread over the web quickly. Sometimes that is good. Sometimes not so much. Check out the home made Mini ad at gomotron.com or you can check out a ton of viral ads at boreme.com.

At a few bars the DJ is an iPod.

I told you as soon as they hired Karmazin that ads would follow at Sirius. You thought I was joking. Hope you enjoyed the "free" ride while it lasted. More news with Sirius and XM joining together. They are talking. Again I say-- these are the same people that destroyed radio...will they do the same to satellite? Duh.

Music Music everywhere. The Buzz out of Midem.

U2 fans unhappy at the way the ticket sales are going.

MTV reports: Former X singer John Doe will release his fifth solo effort, the rootsy punk album Forever Hasn't Happened Yet, on March 22. The record contains guest shots from former Blasters leader Dave Alvin, Neko Case, Throwing Muses' Kristin Hersh and Grant-Lee Phillips.

And If you're a Dinosaur Jr. freak, freesofree.net is the place for you. The official bootleg site has hundreds of free recordings of songs by the defunct indie rock band and its leader, J Mascis, including close to 100 MP3-quality live recordings spanning the years 1986-2004. The site also has more than 40 music-video and live video clips. ...

PJ to Jam with Frampton? Sounds strange but it could work.

REM to headline the Isle of Wight fest. Read the posts at the bottom of the article. Interesting.

From Pitchfork:
Ben Folds to Release Album in April
Aaron Mandel reports:
Having just stunned the music world by producing a William Shatner record that one can listen to twice without wanting to chew one's own ears off, Ben Folds is getting ready to release Songs For Silverman, his second full album since the dissolution of Ben Folds Five, on April 26. The record will be almost entirely different from the three Internet-released EPs that have acted as teasers for it, with only one song making a reappearance-- "Give Judy My Notice", re-recorded for Silverman.
Folds went into detail in an interview with Rolling Stone about one song: "Late", written in memory of Elliott Smith. "I was playing all the same shitholes he was," Folds said. "The lyrics of the song are about people who are sharing your experience too-- 'Oh, Elliott Smith did this club last night, and he sat in that same room and read all the shit about dicks and asses on the wall.' Poets like to talk about how they look up and see the same stars, and I think rock musicians all look up and see the same dicks on the walls. I played [basketball] with him and Beck one time, and Elliott was just fucking throwing elbows like there was no tomorrow." Wait, Ben, can you go back to the thing about the wall-mounted penises? We're not totally clear on that part.
Most of the record-- nine songs-- were initially recorded early last year, but for whatever reason, Folds scrapped the original tapes and recorded all of the final version of Silverman in Nashville during a single six-week Nashville stay last fall.
The tracklist:
01 Bastard
02 You To Thank
03 Jesusland
04 Landed
05 Gracie
06 Trusted
07 Give Judy My Notice
08 Late
09 Sentimental Guy
10 Time
11 Prison Food

And just to make sure expectations for the album are nice and low, Folds brought Weird Al Yankovic in to sing backing vocals on "Time". A handful of American concert dates will precede the album's release, and two weeks in Europe will follow it:
01-27 Durham, NC - Duke University
01-28 Carlisle, PA - Dickinson College
01-29 Syracuse, NY - Syracuse University
02-10 Norman, OK - University Of Uklahoma
02-12 Crawfordsville, IN - Wabash College
02-17 Storrs, CT - University of Connecticut
04-24 Millersville, PA - Millersville University
05-31 London, England - Hammersmith Apollo
06-01 London, England - Barbican
06-02 Brighton, England - The Dome
06-04 Berlin, Germany - Columbia Halle
06-05 Cologne, Germany - Live Music Hall
06-07 Glasgow, Scotland - Royal Concert Hall
06-08 Dublin, Ireland - Vicar Street
06-10 Southampton, England - Guild Hall
06-11 Manchester, England - Lowry
06-13 Sheffield, England - Octagon
06-14 Leicester, England - De Montford Hall
06-16 Cambridge, England - Corn Exchange
06-17 Warwick, England - Arts Centre

I have heard Landed and I think that will be the first single. Safe.

OAR are back with CD and tour.

It is Tuesday and here is some new music on sale now: Enjoy.
...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead Worlds Apart-- Interscope
On their fourth album Worlds Apart, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead turn to the massive sound of prog-rock for inspiration, with uneven, but often fascinating, results. Indie Rock, Alternative Pop/Rock
Bright Eyes I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning --Saddle Creek
As you may have read elsewhere, Bright Eyes — a.k.a. Conor Oberst — releases not one, but two albums of all-new material this week. The first is I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning, an acoustic-based collection that hearkens back to the heyday of singer/songwriters in the early '70s. The second is Digital Ash in a Digital Urn, an electronic-inflected indie-pop album not far removed from the Postal Service's Give Up. While I'm Wide Awake and Digital Ash may seem dissimilar on the surface, they're both unmistakably the work of a songwriter who is not nearly as gifted or compelling as his reputation would suggest. Indie Rock
Kenny Chesney Be as You Are (Songs From an Old Blue Chair) --BNA
Kenny Chesney returns this week with Be As You Are (Songs from an Old Blue Chair), the sequel to last year's chart-topping When the Sun Goes Down. In contrast to the polished, arena-ready When the Sun, Be As You Are is a relaxed, low-key collection of ballads and easy-rolling pop tunes that celebrate life in the Carribbean Islands, and it's one of Chesney's best albums to date. Neo-Traditionalist Country, Contemporary Country
Low The Great Destroyer --Sub Pop
Low's Sub Pop debut The Great Destroyer shows that the band can work on a big scale as well as an intimate one, and has all the beauty and emotion that fans have come to expect from a new Low album. Dream Pop, Indie Rock, Alternative Pop/Rock
Lou Barlow Emoh-- Merge Lo-Fi, Alternative Pop/Rock, Singer/Songwriter
Bettie Serveert Attagirl --Minty Fresh Indie Pop, Indie Rock
Bright Eyes Digital Ash in a Digital Urn --Saddle Creek Indie Pop, Indie Rock

Sometimes it seems like the bottom is the only place I've been

I know that the last title was an easy one. Homer singing "it was a very good beer" OK brain--you don't like me and I don't like you but if we get through this then I can go back to slowly killing you with beer.

Remember it's all fun and games until someone gets human feces in their eye. DMBs bus driver gets it.

The BBC reminds us when we upgrade to recycle.

Conservatives take on Spongebob. Claim he is gay. Didn't this tact fail with Ernie and Bert?

WD-40 fights drugs. It now has 2001 uses.

What does it mean to be drunk? What does it mean to be sober? Read this essay while I go grab a beer.

Toy ray guns. Need I say more.

O'reily at it again. I know I know this happens on a daily basis but c'mon people we are smarter than this( o wait we aren't--look who we voted in for POTUS). Get him off the airwaves. Stop listening. Please and speaking of getting off the airwaves. American Idol kicked some ratings ass. C'mon people we are smarter than this. O never mind.

65,000 anti-fans can't be wrong? Stop Ashlee Simpson plea. It's funny because it's true and if you think this is bad it could and will get worse. Hit Song Science. I hope I am wrong.

Sharon Osbourne in for Politics in UK.

THIS DAY IN MUSIC:
In 1971, The mass murder trial of Charles Manson was under way. Much to the dismay of The Beatles, "Helter Skelter" was played in the courtroom. Manson had reportedly scrawled "helter skelter" on a mirror at the scene of the crime.
In 1974, A nine-mile long traffic jam prevented many fans from entering the Bob Dylan concert with The Band in Miami until it was half-over.
In 1976, Promoter Bill Sargent made his first proposal to The Beatles to reunite, offering $30 million for just one concert. As we know, they refused it and all ensuing entreaties.
In 1993, Fleetwood Mac reunited to play "Don't Stop" and other hits at the first inauguration celebration for President William Jefferson Clinton.
In 1993, The Supreme Court refused to lower the amount that a judge awarded Tom Waits for unauthorized usage of a Waits sound- and look-alike in a Frito-Lay commercial. The chip company paid up to the tune of a cool $2.5 million. That's a lot of Chesterfields!

She's got Superman's smile and Wonderwomen's hair

We can thank Tom Waits and his tune "Tango Till They're Sore" for the prior title.

So it's Monday and hopefully you are not working. Have an extra beer for me.

Check out the three amigos. No this is not a remake with Will Ferrell--although that would be sweet. Instead this is something...well...else.

Oh My God it Burns. Bad vodka turned good? Maybe. I haven't tried it but if someone out there has let me know. Page down to the experiment on 11/05.

BACKBEAT: COLLECTOR’S EDITION, is coming to DVD on January 25th!
Directed by Iain Softley (K-PAX), Backbeat is an energetic, musical drama chronicling the pre-fame Beatles as they head to Hamburg in search of success. As they gain popularity, the “fifth Beatle,” bass guitarist Stuart Sutcliffe (Stephen Dorff), falls in love and ultimately must choose between his best friend John Lennon, his new love (Sheryl Lee) and the greatest rock and roll band in the world.
Full of vitality and heart, with a soundtrack that includes rock classics, featuring music from Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), David Pirner (Soul Asylum) and Mike Mills (R.E.M.)

and if it's your birthday then happy Bday to you too.

On this day in History:

In 1955, Legendary deejay Alan Freed held his first Rock & Roll Ball in Harlem. The sold-out shows starred Big Joe Turner, The Clovers, Fats Domino, The Drifters, The Moonglows and The Harptones.
In 1960, Elvis Presley was demoted to sergeant in the U.S. Army. But he was still The King.
In 1963, Drummer Charlie Watts made his first onstage appearance with The Rolling Stones at the Flamingo Jazz Club in Soho, London.
In 1966, Britain's David Jones legally changed his last name to David Bowie to avoid confusion with The Monkees' Davy Jones. On this same day, Parlophone Records released the single "Can't Help Thinking About Me" b/w "And I Say To Myself" by David Bowie And The Lower Third.
In 1967, The Grateful Dead and the Jefferson Airplane performed at the first "Human Be-In" at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
In 1970, Diana Ross sang with the other two Supremes for the last time at a show in Vegas.
In 1973, Elvis: Aloha From Hawaii, transmitted via satellite, drew the largest worldwide television audience in the history of the medium. Later released as a double album, it became one of Elvis's best selling releases of the '70s.
In 1973, Thunderin' Phil Lesh, bassist for the Grateful Dead, was busted for drug possession in California.
In 1975, Three Dog Night earned a 12th and final Gold disc for their Greatest Hits album. Meanwhile, Joe Walsh got the Gold for his third solo album, So What. Walsh joined up with the Eagles the next year.
In 1978, The Sex Pistols made their final concert appearance, at Winterland Auditorium in San Francisco, before calling it quits. A reunion tour (naturally, without Sid Vicious) in 1996 was disastrous.
In 1985, "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band-Aid, an all-star aggregation, became the U.K.'s biggest selling single ever when sales of three million copies was approached just weeks after its release.
In 1989, Paul McCartney released his album Back In The U.S.S.R. only in Russia. Bootleg copies went for as much as $1,000 here in the States.
In 1993, The Pixies announced that they were breaking up.

One busy day in Rock history. Alot of firsts and lasts.

Bjork needs your help to finish CD for benefit.

Weezer almost done with new CD.

Midnight Oil reunite for benefit.

Best Scotish band ever. I think Teenage Fan Club should be higher and don't even get me started on where they have Jesus and Mary Chain. That is just wrong. You also need to move up the Beta Band and Trashcan Sinatra. Just my humble opinion but I have been wrong before and will be wrong again. Hell maybe I am right now.

Why is it that the wrong people have too much money. I would find a much better way of spending it(like buying a radio station here in NY and create a KEXP for the east coast--just the first thing off the top of my head). It would Not be on a date with a spice girl. Ugh.

Coldplay update on new CD due in March.

Obits of the future.

Time for me to go.

A top 5 list from KEXP morning man:

THE TOP 5 THINGS THIS WEEK THAT MAKE YOU WONDER ABOUT WHERE WE LIVE

1. LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- At least one Fox Broadcasting Co. affiliate has balked at airing Monday night's 90-minute special "Who's Your Daddy," which has raised the ire of adoption advocacy groups for a premise that revolves around an adopted woman trying to pick her biological father from a group of eight candidates. THE THING IS, THE FOX NEWS TELLS US ALL ABOUT OUR VALUES GOING DOWN THE TOILET BUT THE FOX STATIONS OF COURSE.IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. WAIT, NOTHING MAKES SENSE.

2. MIAMI, Florida (Reuters) -- Wade Jones of North Carolina says he snared a plastic cup from which Elvis Presley drank at a concert in 1977 and kept the cup and the water for 27 years before selling the remaining few tablespoons of water on eBay, for $455. IF WE JUST FOCUSED ALL THE MONEY PEOPLE WASTED ON STUPID CRAP LIKE THIS ON CHARITY JUST IMAGINE. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? AND WHY DO THEY HAVE ALL THIS EXTRA MONEY THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH? I WOULD HAVE TOTALLY GONE WITH THE SOCK DICK VAN PATTON WORE ON THE EIGHT IS ENOUGH PILOT.

3. LOS ANGELES, California (Billboard) -- Eminem was the top-seller among last-minute holiday shoppers as "Encore" returned to No. 1 on the U.S. album charts last week after a month-long absence. PHEW! I KNEW CHRIST'S BIRTHDAY WOULD HELP EMINEM. SERIOUSLY, CHRIST DIED SO WE COULD GO TO BEST BUY AND PICK UP THE NEW EMINEM

4. ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- The pink carpet was rolled out, the pink spotlights danced through the crisp night air of downtown Orlando, and everything seemed in place for the opening of Paris Hilton's first nightclub. Missing, notably: One pink-loving hotel heiress. Hilton arrived six hours behind schedule -- after many guests had left. NOT ME THOUGH, I NEVER MISS A PARIS SIGHTING! YOU JUST NEVER SEE HER ENOUGH! YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE NEVER TO MISS HER AS SHE IS ALMOST INVISIBLE. IT'S A CRYING SHAME

5. (CNN) -- Entertainer George Carlin said Monday he is going into rehab because he has an alcohol and drug problem. In a statement, Carlin, 67, said, "I'm going into rehab because I use too much wine and Vicodin. No one told me I needed this; I recognized the problem and took the step myself. THANK GOD THE MAN IS GETTING HELP, WONDERFUL NEWS. I JUST ALWAYS SAW HIM MORE OF A RED BULL WITH COKE AND SPEED KIND OF GUY.

PIXIES !!!
PIXIES !!
PIXIES !
The legendary Pixies are planning to release a DVD that will mark their return to the live arena. The Boston based band have just completed an eight month tour that finished in New York on Saturday night, they have been followed by a film crew during their time on the road and the footage will be used for a documentary on the band and possibly an in-concert DVD reports Billboard. Pixies' manager Ken Goes said to Billboard: "I have collected film from about six or seven full concerts which we plan to edit for a compilation concert DVD. "There is a possibility that these two DVDs will be combined into one double-disc set, but that is not yet confirmed." Despite their successful reunion the Pixies all have their fingers in other pies. Frank Black will be releasing two new albums while bassist Kim Deal is to record a new album with The Breeders.

I told you it was a very good year. I might come back a change a few but this is my list right now( if you want to view my 2003 list here it is). We can agree to disagree-- just let me know and please feel free to forward your list. If you look at KEXP's top 90 or so you will notice quite a similar list. Well that is why I love them and stream the station almost anytime I am at the computer. Here is the top of 2004 from KEXP. and Paste Magazine.

Enjoy your hangover and football. Looking forward to 2005 and more great music.

I just saw Sideways. Go see it. As a Beer Geek I could relate. Great movie. Also just got Coupling from Netflix. Amazing except for the laugh track. Get rid of that and you have pure magic. (When do you take your socks off?) If you don't have it in your queue do so now. It's Friends (minus coffee shop replace with Pub and brew) meets Seinfeld meets Sex in the City with a British accent. Thanks to Pezman for the heads up. Yes I know I am very far behind on this one but give a musichead a break. I am but one man. I do indeed need help so please pass on any and all info to make me a better human being. Thanks in advance.
