Back to Normal

Man in a way I feel really sorry for this guy but it is still funny. The Beginning is good the middle is great and the ending...I guess he will have to home schooled now. Caught singing Crazy.

I bet you can figure out at least 80 percent of these Russian Wood Carvings. Some of them just blow my mind. Posted this as a way of remembering my time in the Moscow International Airport. Also to remember the Russian John Candy and quite a few hotties. Yes at the airport.

Vedder and Homme team up with The Strokes to record Marvin Gaye.

Podcasting after iTunes. The Good the Bad and the ugly.

Jeff Buckley movie...a few more details.

Sleater-kinney say goodbye. Chicago you get the last show...lucky dogs. Just don't passout in the heat.

File this one under DUH. XM and Sirius serious about getting together.

I already made you laugh...see up top. Now it is time to be afraid. Very afraid. From PBS' Frontline. The Dark Side.

Back from the USSR and the WC

Wow...what a trip. The only bummer was the way the US played. Stories yes there are stories. From Starting a chant in the middle of hundreds of Drunk English fans to a battle of cell phone pictures where the winning photo included the no-no place of a female and piercings. To having to stay in Moscow International Airport for almost 24 hours. 23 hours and 55 minutes actually. To half metre brats. Good times.

NEXT Week 10. Double digits. And they said NEXT wouldn't last.

The Playlist.
John Ralston – I believe in Ghosts (Needle Bed)
Ralston sent a rough copy to Jay Bennett—yes the ex Wilco guy. Bennett was impressed enough to invite Ralston to his Chicago studio in January, to overdub a few songs from Needlebed. Some sort of madness or magic took hold. Twelve songs later, another album -- There's Always an Ambulance Around the Bend -- was born.

Barenaked Ladies – Wind It up (Easy EP)
Good ep for 99 cents. 3 for 1. Yeah Canada. They sound like BNL so if you like BNL you will dig this.

Small Sins – Is She the one? (Small Sins)
Another bunch of Canadians. Orignially called The Ladies and Gentleman but had to change their name because of copy right issues. Think of Small Sins as The Postal Services younger brother. Prediction…whispering rock will be in vogue soon.

Cary Brothers – Wasted One (Waiting for your letter EP)
He can be found on quite a few OSTs. Garden State, Sky High—which is a very cd of covers, and Scrubs the TV show. Getting everything he has put out will be pretty easy as this is only his second ep. I am sure a full length will be coming soon.

Keane – Put it Behind You (Under the Iron Sea)
In the two years since releasing their debut album Hopes and Fears, Keane has quickly established itself an integral part of the mainstream. Still no guitar but they are using a guitar effects pedal. So you might think they have picked up the guitar but not yet.

The Futureheads – Thursday (New and Tributes)
You’ll hear some Beach Boys some Jam and Big Country in the ablum too. The U.S. version of News and Tributes includes tracks from the U.K. Area EP and Shy Child's loopy remix of "Decent Days and Nights."
Tortoise and Bonnie “Prince” Billy – Thunder Road (Cover of Bruce Springsteen) (The Brave and the Bold)
Well, this one is a surprise. The Brave and the Bold is an all-covers collaboration between Bonnie "Prince" Billy (Will Oldham) and Tortoise, They cover songs From Devo to Richard Thompson to Lungfish.

Bellrays – Tell the Lie (Have a little Faith)
Part R & B, Part Rock, Part Punk, blended with fun, funk, and soul. An LA Band that has been around since the late 90s. This is their 5th cd.

Smoosh – Free to Stay (Free to Stay)
To say that these girls are talented beyond their years would be the understatement of the year. They can’t even get a drink yet in fact they can’t even drive yet. 13 and 14. This is their 2nd cd and a big jump…leap forward. I am not sure if you want the whole cd…they are getting there but download the highlights.

G. Love – Hot Cookin’ (Lemonade)
Garret Dutton’s 7th cd and the first for Jack Johnson’s “Brushfire Records” Good summer time groove thing going on. Among the musicians who guest on G. Love's "Lemonade" are Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Marc Broussard, Los Lobos' David Hidalgo, Donavon Frankenreiter and Tristan Prettyman. CD due out in August.

Landon Pigg – Sailed on (This is a pigg EP)
Based in Nashville. Sounding like Coldplay never hurt and neither doesn’t have a free song on iTunes or having the song play on Greys Anatomy. And from reading his bio on his website the man likes coffee and that is just fine with me.

WKRP -- foot powder. YouTube.

Summer is here

 Posted by Picasa

Back From Exile

I guess I have alot to talk about since my last post.
Been to jail, been to Great America, been in a near-death experience, been to Pearl Jam (twice), been to another festival (Summercamp), been to Cedarburg (Wisconsin), been to Secret Machines, been to a Conan taping, been to bed, been to drink.
My spring thus far.
Now that Summer has officially begun, I thought I should try and catch up on my posting.

Radiohead played two shows at the Auditorium Theatre this week. I heard they were great. Here is a new song done at one of those shows.

Week 8 of NEXT Tonight

You should listen tonight if only to hear the first track. New-- New York Dolls. NEXT is can be streamed at 1071thepeak.com and is sponsored by the good music loving people at snapple. Thank you Snapple. Next is all about finding you Your next new favorite song and surely you can find something this week. Listen and let me know.

New York Dolls – dance like a monkey ( One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This)
On July 25, their first studio album in over 30 years. The first pressing of the eagerly anticipated album will include a special 45-minute "making-of" DVD as well as the bonus track "17". Check out the guests on this CD : R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe ("Dancing on the Lip of A Volcano"), Iggy Pop ("Gimme Luv and Turn On the Light") and, Bo Diddley ("17")

Sheryl Crow – Real Gone (OST Cars)
It’s nice to have the rocker chick back…and I mean that in the nicest possible way. Her quiet moments are nice but I think she is best at the mid-tempo rockers.

Starlight Mints – Inside of Me (Drowaton)
Like a bubblegum pop that got lost in The Grimm Brother’s Woods.

Office – Wound Up (Q and A)
They are from Chicago and an unsigned band. 2 boys and 2 girls. This cd doesn’t sound like 4 people that have day jobs.

Smashing Pumpkins – You’re All I’ve Got Tonight (Cover of Cars)
Former Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery has been tapped to join the reunited Smashing Pumpkins,

Zero 7 – This Fine Social Scene (The Garden)
Progression of a great group. Great First cd followed by a less then perfect second cd and then the 3rd cd calls for redirection. Welcome to step three of Zero 7.

Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan – Do You Wanna Come Walk With Me? (Ballad of the Broken Seas)
Beauty and Beast…vocally? Well maybe angelic voice meets Whiskey drowned rasp. a beautiful late night cd. Campbell former Belle and Sebestian member and Lanegan most famous for Screaming Trees.

Hotel Lights – Stumblin’ Home Winter Blues (Hotel Blues)
Another former…former drummer for Ben Folds Five—Darren Jessee. This cd will get played on the OC then the secret will be out. Jump now people. Plays guitar piano and sings lead—that’s right no drums.

Willie Nile – Back Home (Streets of New York)
He made his recording debut in 1980 , , he manages to sound more then a bit like Dylan

Camera Obscura – Lloyd, I ‘m Ready to Be Heartbroken (Let’s Get Out of this Country)
If music were seasons-- indie pop would be fall, Garage Rock winter and And what is the flavor of summer? Orchestral indie rock distilled in southern Scotland, a la Camera Obscura

Keller Williams – Goof Balls (Grass)
I think Keller sums up this album best on his website…Keller Williams' self released album GRASS is a delightfully bizarre collection of anything-but-traditional bluegrass songs.

Muse – Supermassive Black Hole (Black holes and revelations)
This single is quite a departure for the band but I hear the rest of the CD is magic.

Just back from Vacation

Had a great time up in Ithaca at Cornell for reunion. Had a blast even though it wasn't my school. Anytime you get to re-live the college days is alright with me. Go Big Red. oh and if you find yourself on campus climb up the bell tower and listen/watch the chimemasters play. They do a mean version of "Clocks" by Coldplay. Really? Yes Really. Really really? Yes Really Really. Listen here.

Man did the US look poor. Maybe they should watch this for a bit. Footie.

Not sure how they will improve upon the oringinal. Nick Cage has already messed another one of my all-time favs(Wings of Desire) so now he has decided to ruin this one too? The Wicker Man. Thanks.

Stick Figure Death Match. and this one is sooo much better. Animator v Animation.

Look up in the sky...is it a plane? Is it a bird? No...it's a jukebox.

So you want tix to Bonaroo? Too late. I guess you wouldn't be one of the lucky 80,000.

All of MP3 answers back. Still have yet to download anything yet but tempted. Anyone try them out? Can't beat the price that's for sure.

I can't wait for the 19th.
Mammoth Press reports:
The Raconteurs have teamed up with Paul Ruebens, best known for his work as Pee Wee Herman, in a brand new video for their single, "Steady, As She Goes." The video's plot surrounds a soap box derby race with the band members. Ruebens plays "an unscrupulous pit boss, stooping to low levels to ensure a win for his racer."
The video will premiere exclusively on Yahoo! Music on Monday, June 19th.

FMQB reports:
Bob Dylan's next album will be called Modern Times and will be released on August 28, according to a new report from the U.K.'s NME magazine.

One Second Spots? on the radio or blinks. Hey if it lowers the spotset time and you can sell someone on that...go for it. Or maybe not. It will probably just be annoying and that will just piss me off further.

NEXT WEEK 7 Tonight

Next is a new music show on 1071thepeak.com. We want to help you find your next new favorite song. Before I get to the playlist. A Bummer. The fifth Beatle has died. Billy Preston's Wikipedia page.

John Stewart hammers Bill Bennett.

OK the playlist. Next is on tonight at 11 and repeats Sunday at 8. All times eastern.

Hard-Fi – Hard to Beat (Stars of CCTV)
70s disco meets Pop Punk. Duran Duran meets the Clash. OK maybe not the Clash but you get the idea.

The Raconteurs – Level (Broken Boy Soldiers)
I am sure you already know quite a bit about Jack White’s side project that he claims is not a side project. It’s nice hear Jack with a full band.

David Mead – Hard to Remember (Tangerine)
melody-driven pop made by songsmiths such as Randy Newman, Paul Simon and Paul McCartney.

The Devics – Just One Breathe (Push the Heart)
4th cd and they keep the night late vibe going. Vocals are great. Could we call her this generations Caucasion Bille Holliday?

Joe Satriani – It’s So Good (Super Colossal)
2 years since his last cd. This cd is just cool guitar playing not showing off—well a little showing off.

Josh Ritter – Wolves (The Animal Years)
Josh Ritter doesn't believe in breakthrough records, even though everybody's saying he's made one. Get into this guy.

Eric Clapton – I’ve told You For the Last Time (Eric Clapton-Deluxe Version)
One of many unreleased versions of songs found on ECs first solo cd. These alternative takes can be found on the Duluxe version of Eric Clapton.

Katie Todd Band – Face Down (Make Some Time For Wasting)
A cross between Fiona Apple and Lucinda Williams…they are from Chicago and will be playing Lalaplooza this year.

Beth Orton – Rectify (Comfort of Strangers)
It is a stride away from her earlier work which was a sort of folk electronica, this one is quieter and produced by Jim O'Rourke. Yes I know you don’t think Jim O’Rourke and think quieter. But this cd works

Bruce Cockburn – Different When It Comes To You (Life Short- Call Now)
Bruce Cockburn - Life Short Call Now: A 23-piece symphony joins the folk icon for his 29th album. He is Canadian eh.

Los Lonely Boys _ Superstition (Cover of Stevie Wonder) (Diamond ep)
Look for a new Doc featuring them call-- Los Lonely Boys: Cottonfields and Crossroads. Premiered at SXSW.

Enjoy the new tunes and remember NEXT is an iMix. Go to the main page of iMix on iTunes and search for an iMix called NEXT WEEK 7

I was one of the 86,000. You should be too. Luna online.

Digital price wars.

Urban Duran? The DD boys are going Hip Hop?

Grateful Dead Death.

PR reports:
On June 6, Move By Yourself, the sophomore release from singer/songwriter/pro-surfer Donavon Frankenreiter will be released on Lost Highway, his first for the label.
Move By Yourself is the next step in the natural progression of an artist looking to spread his wings. Move By Yourself is somewhat of a sonic departure from the Southern California native’s self-titled 2004 Brushfire Records debut, which yielded the Top 5 AAA single “Free”. Donavon and company (Matt Grundy/bass, Eric Brigmond/keys and Craig Barnette/drums) have stamped their signature brand of “feel good music with a soul” all over this new offering. The album feels like a breath of fresh air…old-school fresh air, that is

Title is from Josh Ritter's "Wolves" Great cd from a great songwriter. In fact Paste magazine just named him number 97 of songwriters alive currently. He is pretty young so jump on the bandwagon now.
