What a beautiful day

These are my favorite kind of days. Shorts with long sleeves. Life is good sometimes.

Jazz Fest back in the Big Easy. The Boss plays tonight. Get his new cd. The Pete Seeger Sessions.

Wow. Check out this Preacher. Bad Language so be warned. Watch him go after a phone-in Satanist.

Something for the ladies. The hardest working middle aged man in show business. Murray Hill. Just trying to help ladies. You can thank me later.

Save up the hard earned pennies for July 11. Thank you Rhino
Rhino has set a July 11 release date for reissues of the first five Jesus & Mary Chain studio albums, which have been out-of-print on CD in the United States for years. The Dual Disc packages feature a remastered version of the album on the audio side, while the DVD side boasts a high-resolution audio mix and three music videos from the era. JAMC's acclaimed 1985 debut, "Psychocandy," features videos for "Just Like Honey," "Never Understand" and "You Trip Me Up," while its 1987 successor, "Darklands," includes clips for the title cut, "Happy When It Rains" and "April Skies." The videos for 1989's "Automatic" are "Blues From a Gun," "Her Way of Praying" and "Head On," while 1992's "Honey's Dead" rounds up clips for "Almost Gold," "Far Gone and Out" and "Reverence."The group's last Warner Bros. release, "Stoned and Dethroned," is augmented with videos for "Sometimes Always," "Come On" and "Snakedriver." JAMC disbanded following the 1998 Sub Pop release "Munki."

Congrats to Tapes n Tapes--I will be playing "insistor" next Wednesday on Next.
Minneapolis buzz band Tapes 'N Tapes has signed with XL Recordings, which will release its debut album, "The Loon," on July 25, according to a label spokesperson. The group has been selling the album on its own since last fall and has become a favorite of indie-centric music blogs ever since. The Coalition of Independent Music Stores began racking the album at retail last month.Accurately described as the illegitimate red-headed stepchild of the Pixies' Frank Black and former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus, Tapes 'N Tapes will kick off its first U.K. tour May 18 in London. An extensive summer North American tour is also in the works.

Summer concerts to hit.

Go time for the Pumpkins.

NEXT starts tonight-kinda

Next Wednesday is the Grand Opening of NEXT but we will have a "soft" opening tonight. You are invited to listen. You can listen on the radio in the New York City area on 107.1 or online 1071thepeak.com

Here's the playlist a special and delicious treat just for you:

WEEK ONE PLAYLIST:
NEXT is brought to you by Snapple.

We are Scientists – Lousy Reputation
Are you a fan of loud, jangly guitars? You could do worse. Plus you have to respect a man that knows he can’t get passed the bad rep of a possible girlfriend.
KT Tunstall – Miniature Disasters
Huge on both sides of the pond but you already knew that
The Editors – Munich
This song sounds like happy to me. I smile when I listen to it and bounce up and down.
Head like a kite – Pour Me a Drink!
You gotta love any song with a “!” You know they will seriously rock you. Highly recommend this cd.
Turin Brakes – cover RHCP – Breaking The Girl
Every week NEXT does a cover song. This is this weeks. Hope you enjoyed.
Gomez – How We Operate
They should be huge. Please help them get huge. One of my favorite bands to come out of the 90s.
Secret Machines – Alone, Jealous and Stoned
Does a title get any better? It’s like they know my life.
Nada Surf – Do It Again
Since their MTV hit (which wasn’t that bad) they have been on a roll.
Mates of State – Think Long
They are married and make music. My hats off to them – a marriage is hard enough without the road trips in the van.
Donavon Frankenreiter – Move By Yourself
What a 180. I dig it though.
Drive-By Truckers – Gravity’s Gone
A wonderful run of 4 straight LPs with this one. I am not the biggest fan of southern rock but I am a huge fan of these guys.
Little Willies – It’s Not You, It’s Me
Norah Jones’ side project that I hope creates more laid back magic. Sit on the back porch and mellow out with this cd.
Chris Whitley and the Bastard Club – Mountainside
Yes I know it’s a cover of a Flaming Lips tune and I already played a cover this week but it is my favorite tune on this cd. It’s a huge song on so many levels.

Thanks for listening. Until next week.
Chris Bro

PS: This list is available as an iMix on iTunes. Go to the iMix mainpage and search under “iMix Name” for Next Week One. It should pop right up. If not just email me a cbro@1071thepeak.com

Interview of Greg Dulli of the Aghan Whigs in 1994. My goal for this year is to get them back together.

the music industry could use the pirates way against the pirates but they wouldn't do that. They will keep on suing old ladies and college kids. Brillant. Like this: Family sued and they don't even own a computer.

Does music make you smarter? Are the parents playing Mozart getting their kids smarter than I am my kids? as I play the Ramones, Pearl Jam, the Beatles, The Police, Echo and the Bunnymen and Death Cab for Cutie for them. Not sure I care as my kids already have better taste in music than most of America and they are almost 4 and almost 1. I think I might have to get a tee shirt that says "my kids rock harder than your kids" PS: the photo is of my little girl.

Dylan the DJ on XM.

Johnny Ramone tribute movie

There are alot of morons out there. Lennon speaks. Yeah right. If it were him he would have said "Tell Paul his new cd sucks"

CSNY tour. First in four years.

Whatever Dude. You'll spend a bit of time here.

I know this would be a perfect 4-20 post but...naked man gets stuck in chimney.

Raconteurs need a different name for tour down under.

Highly under-appreciated Sam Roberts out on the road backing new cd. I have yet to hear the new tunes but do yourself a favor and hit his last cd. Perfect rock and/or roll.

More Monkeys in the US. Arctic Monkeys that is. They are expanding their stay here and playing more dates.

Rolling Stone on a new fav of mine...the Editors. One to watch indeed.

livedaily's cd review of Umphrey McGee's latest CD.

Elbow...dad rock? Is that a bad thing? I am a dad and I like Elbow...I guess the answer is maybe. If you know a dad that rocks maybe you should write in to win the 2006 all star dad from Men's Health.

Thanks HM for the post.

Bongos rock man. Just try to keep up.

The amen break. I love the record player. It's a long piece (and the reading by Nate doesn't help) but the info is pretty damn cool.

5 bands Rolling Stone Mag liked at SXSW.

More on Google's music download future.

According to a posting at their website, www.judaspriest.com, Judas Priest are creating their first conceptual album based upon the life and predictions of Nostradamus.
According to a quote from the site, "This album will be theatrically staged and performed in its entirity as an epic musical by Judas Priest! More news later!!" and of course after hearing this you just knew this was going to happen.
MTV.com is reporting that QUEENSRŸCHE's 1988 conceptual masterpiece, "Operation: Mindcrime", will be getting the big-screen treatment, according to frontman Geoff Tate. He said the band has hired a screenwriter to adapt the LP into a feature film, and that they're in the midst of shopping it to Hollywood studios

The Tripwire reports:
2005's most celebrated artist, Sufjan Stevens, will release The Avalanche: Outtakes And Extras From The Illinois Album on July 25 through Asthmatic Kitty Records.
Apparently, Illinois was initially intended for release as a double album with a total of about 50 songs being written for inclusion. As the project developed however, the decision was made to cut it in half and release Illinois as a single CD.

The Doors turn 40 and sellout.

Johnny gets the word and more. Poor Johnny. Learn from his mistakes or you are doomed to repeat it.

I am addicted to this pool game. Good luck.
