Bono & Eddie Posted by Picasa

To give you frame of reference on how good my seats were...that is my fist sticking up with my silver watch on on the left side of this pic. Pretty cool huh? Posted by Picasa

A Fine Night of music in Toronto

Just back from last nights Pearl Jam show in Toronto.
I ended up with 5th row center. I was very happy with my seats. Ed did a nice preset acoustic version of "Porch" before Sleater Kinney's set. The show itself was more or less a greatest hits set. This was not a bad thing. Many uber-fans are used to PJ throwing in rare b-sides or obscure covers in their sets, and I enjoy this as well, however last night was just as good as I have ever seen them. Blistering renditions of "Do The Evolution" "Present Tense" and "Blood" were highlights, as was a beautiful cover of Neil Young's 'Harvest Moon". U2 references were made throughout the night and Ed had jumped on stage with U2 at their show in Toronto on Saturday, so perhaps it came as no surprise when Bono joined PJ for a lights on version of Neil Young's "Rockin' In The free World". A very cool moment. Toronto is a great city and it was a fantastic night. Special thanks to my sis for coming out with me to this show.
Note: By the time Bono jumped onstage I had run out of film in my camera, so I had to post pics I found on the net.

Ed solo: Porch
Set list: Release, Go, Animal, Save You, Given To Fly, Corduroy, Love Boat Captain, Small Town, Even Flow, Habit, Daughter, Better Man, 1/2 Full, Black, Do The Evolution, Rearviewmirror
1st encore: You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, Present Tense, Wishlist, Harvest Moon, Indifference, Alive
2nd encore: Blood, Jeremy, Leaving Here, Rockin' in the Free World w/Bono and Sleater Kinney, Yellow Ledbetter

As I prepare to make my way up to the great white north to see PJ in Toronto, I have to say that new Franz Ferdinand single is damn catchy...a good late summer buzz. Speaking of PJ...glad I bought my tix before this show was announced....

The DVD may be axed, but the live album tracklist has been released...as someone who was at one of these shows, I would have liked to see a little more "Summerteeth" and "Being There" representation.

Getting bad with Apple. I wondered when someone was going to do this.

Derek Smalls now has a label.

The Stones have done it...now the Beatles. Online?

Death Cab at number four.

Find out how much you'd get sued for if they found your unpaid for goods. The Piracy calculator.

I joke about the end of the world...but I think it really is around the corner. Of course they have promised-- they wouldn't use them unless they are sure that there really are WMDs. (I don't think I've ever written a funnier sentence). I can't believe we voted these people back. I guess we get what we deserve. Thanks Kansas or Ohio or any other flat state in the middle.

That's it...I must go now

KCRW MD HARCOURT PUBLISHES "MUSIC LUST"
Sasquatch Books, publisher of Book Lust and More Book Lust by America's favorite librarian Nancy Pearl, will release KCRW Santa Monica-Los Angeles MD Nic Harcourt’s Music Lust: Recommended Listening for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason (Sasquatch Books, Sept. '05, $16.95, 288 pp). In Music Lust, Harcourt replicates what Nancy Pearl did for readers in her two best-selling books as he offers an eclectic guide to the best in recorded music from Afro-Beat to Frank Zappa. In more than 80 unique and unusual thematic lists, Harcourt provides an eclectic range of recommendations with key albums and songs identified. In a similar fashion to his radio show, Harcourt bases his recommendations according to what he thinks is worth listeners' attention. While he does provide historical context and explanation to his recommendations, this book does not claim to be a comprehensive music guide. Harcourt signed copies of his Music Lust at the Virgin Megastore in West Hollywood, CA yesterday, 9/8. Along with being MD at KCRW, Nic hosts the daily Morning Becomes Eclectic and the weekly nationally-syndicated radio program, Sounds Eclectic.
