Man she saved me--to this day I don't know why

Turn up the V boys and girls. If you've seen the movie you know the NOOOO! Even if you haven't seen Star Wars ROTS this song is still funny. The United States of NO! It's on endless looper. Enjoy. Have a great BBQ.

Lost in Translation. I tried a Dylan verse: "Early one morning the sun was shining" becomes "In the course a morning the sun polished soon". wonderful.

The title comes from Citizen Cope's "Son's Gonna Rise" a great song that will get your head bobbing. It's about a lady ready to give birth and the guy is trying to get her to the hospital in time. Santana plays guitar on this tune.

an interesting article:

REBEL WITH A 401(K)
By MAUREEN CALLAHAN

MEET the new yuppie: the urban striver who listens to "O.C."-approved indie rock, checks the right blogs to find out about "secret" rock shows, considers white iPodearbuds the ultimate fashion accessory - and is a lawyer with a mortgage and a baby onthe way.
Whereas once a yuppie was defined as being part of the establishment - think the '80scorporate drone who wore power suits, watched "thirtysomething" and loved thesoundtrack to "The Big Chill" - today's yuppie strenuously identifies with all thingscounterculture.
The strain was first identified a few weeks ago by Vice Records label manager AdamShore, who derided what he called the newly created "indie-yuppie establishment" in aninterview with the Columbia Spectator.
He tagged offenders as anyone who identifies themselves through their love of what heconsiders the ultimate in polite, passive alternative rock: bands like the Shins, theArcade Fire and the Postal Service that he derides as "comfy music."
Shore's original comments were picked up by Scott Lapatine, who runs the heavilytrafficked music blog stereogum.com.
Stereogum's subsequent contest 'You Might Be an Indie-Yuppie If You . . ." receivedthe most responses Lapatine has ever gotten to a single post.
"If you can afford New York City rents and can go to these rock shows, you aredefinitely an indie-yuppie," says Lapatine, who fully admits to being one himself.
"I just bought a ticket for the Death Cab for Cutie show at Central Park, and it cost$35 - at what point is that indie?"
In other words, you must be an active, contributing member of society who considersyour iTunes library an extension of yourself and who turns up for work at 10 a.m. -though you may be hung over from last night's secret Gang of Four show at the TribecaGrand Hotel.
"I was like, 'Oh, my God! That's me!'" says entrant Tanya Manchini, a 31-year-oldeditor from Hoboken (who admits she was relieved the Nine Inch Nails show she saw onMonday night ended early).
"I crossed the line when I stopped dressing in thrift store clothing and startedappreciating shoes by Michael Kors," she adds.
Still, she says, "it's hard to reconcile yourself to it when you came up through thecollege radio punk scene, and then you grow up to become a person with disposableincome. It really hit home."
Manchini says that the indie-yuppie has replaced the conventional idea of yuppiedom -as does fellow entrant Georgiana Cohen, a 25-year-old Web content producer.
"I'm marginally guilty," admits Cohen, who points to her CD collection ("I've got afew Bright Eyes CDs from 2000, before he was everyone's Jesus Christ") and her love ofthe movie "Garden State" as proof.
"That movie is like the 'Citizen Kane' of indie culture," she says. "You have NataliePortman's character saying that the Shins will change your life. And it dealt withthat kind of ennui - [like] that Gen X malaise ten years ago. It's a badge thing - tosay you saw 'Garden State' three times! In a theater!"
Many newly minted indie-yuppies say the statement they most related to was "You mightbe an indie-yuppie if you put on a CD and secretly pray that you'll like it."
It's a comment speaks to the effort involved in being an indie-yuppie, and the deludedself-esteem that can only come from knowing that you should like the Arcade Fire, orthat Bright Eyes backlash is setting in.
Self-described indie-yuppie Ben Garvey, 26 ("I have a mortgage and just went to seeBuilt to Spill"), blames the Internet.
"Any dork can sit at home and find out about new bands - it's just easier to stay ontop of things," he says. "There would definitely be fewer indie-yuppies if not for theWeb."
But Vice's Shore says that he thinks the phenomenon goes beyond the conspicuousconsumption of the right CD while wearing $200 jeans and sipping an iced chai latte.
He's disturbed, he says, by the sheer level of politeness and sensitivity that hasovertaken indie rock - which, in the '80s and '90s, was defined by coarse, reactionarybands like Nirvana, Soundgarden and even Pavement.
"Why is it that when we're at war, and we have an administration that's so againstyouth, that music isn't harder and more abrasive?" Shore asks. "Now everyone wants tobe the Shins. I just don't get it."
The 33-year-old label exec - who, for the record, says he's not an indie-yuppie ("Idon't require that kind of comfort in my music") - says he was surprised by thereaction he elicited on Stereogum.
"I obviously touched a nerve," he says, adding that he never meant to sparkhipster-on-hipster Web violence. "I was just trying to say that indie music has gonesoft - I mean, it can't get any softer."
But it may be too late: many indie-yuppies are now re-examining just what their CDcollections, viewing habits and fashion choices say about them.
"If you wear Shins pins on your messenger bag or your lapels, it's like saying, 'Lookwho I like! Here are my loyalties!'" says entrant Cohen, who cops to such accessories.
But, she says, she draws the line at owning an iPod.
"I have a different brand of MP3 player, because white earbuds are a theft target -but also because I don't want to be 'that person,'" she says. "I don't want anyone tothink I'm some kind of hipster elitist."

a cool ad for speakers.

and check out the hair.

Well hello there...

Fun with lightsabers. Scroll down for Photoshop fun.

The History of everything (quickly). I like the future the best. Well done.

The Michigan area code may have to change to 666. The number of the beast has been wrong for all these years. Maybe. But this was the best part: Peter Gilmore, High Priest of the Church of Satan, based in New York, said: 'By using 666 we're using something that the Christians fear. Mind you, if they do switch to 616 being the number of the beast then we'll start using that.' Yeah that is the right attitude--We don't care if it's the right number or not, as long as we're scaring Christians! Life is funny. Plus I think Iron Maiden might have to change a few songs too.

42 below...vodka adverts that are funny. The UK. and the gay. and the homeland for these guys down under.

Your age on different planets.

RICH ROBINSON --Guitarist and songwriter with The Black Crowes; younger brother of Chris Robinson; Born in 1969 in Atlanta.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

hecklerspray can't quite decide what's more disturbing. The fact that it's almost been a whole decade since those warbling fools first 'burst' onto the music scene, or the fact that there are actually people out there who still consider this to be a good idea

So many nights with your shadow in my bed

So I saw U2 last night. Amazing. They still put on one great show. I don't care how you feel about Bono he is a great front man. I have also put Edge on my list. The list of people I want to have beers with. Bill Murray is the other right now. I will add more later. The problem with U2 as The Rolling Stones or Pearl Jam or any other artist with many excellent LPs is the playlist. Something is going to left off for the night. My favorite U2 is Achtung Baby. Nothing until the first encore. Then 3 straight tunes from AB so I guess I can't complain too much. They played for just over 2 hours.

Kings of Leon were the openning act. Awesome. I can't wait for Album 3 from these guys. It better be mindblowing. It should be.

I also just got tix to go see Spoon. I can't wait.

The last supper. Sith style.

George Carlin expands the 7 dirty words you can't say on Television. If you think you wouldn't like the content--you're right. If you can't wait to see the expanded list of over 2400 words then click away and enjoy you sick b@st@rd.

Take your mind off life for a bit. Sudoku. It's a logic game.

Uni cycles rock.

Hip to be square? NO...It's good to be square.

Just in case you care. The Hello Kitty guitar.

For lonely boys everywhere. A hugging pillow. Don't ask don't tell. For lonely girls too I guess. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

What you have all been waiting for... a sock puppet movie. Enjoy and to continue the puppet thing. Yoda Sings. Or how to waste 3 minutes of your life. Too many special FX not enough plot Says I.

Adam Curry on Podcasting. Interview.

Sonos reviewed by Sun Times. It's a music system that streams music from your computer throughout your house.

The BBC does digital right.

Digial listening up. Radio listening slips. Duh.

Devils Lake Posted by Hello

I am back...hooray!

I am back from camping in nature...many miles hiked and even more beers consumed. I suggest Devils Lake highly if anyone happens to get out to central Wisconsin.
http://www.devilslakewisconsin.com/

A bit of Radiohead news:
"Radiohead are working on 15 songs at the moment with two of them described as "already done and amazing", Green Plastic reports. The band first got together back in January and Thom played a bunch of his new songs for the others. Having never heard the songs before, the rest of the band just jumped in and started adding their own parts. The whole recording process has been described as "unorganized" and very different than the way Radiohead has recorded before. I know I was on vacation so now I get to comment on this. All I have to say it WTF? Even if you are the most Pro-Bush person in the world this has to make one take notice. Really? Come on. You didn't want to interupt his bike ride and speaking of being late...check out this wonderful advert for the labor party in the UK. Labour is Blair's party(liberal) and Conservative is Tory (sp?). Blair did win by the way. One can only wonder what would have happened if Kerry had used something like this. Anyway I think it's great.

Well you're up all night--praying for a little bit of salvation

I was out of town and couldn't update new releases on Tuesday. There are a few CDs you should not be passing up.

Spoon--Gimme Fiction
Spoon continues to build one of the most consistent, and distinctive, bodies of work in indie rock so while this isn't my favorite CD by them it sounds just like Spoon should sound. That makes me happy. Get this then dive into the back catalog my friend--the music is nice.

DMB- Stand Up
This CD is a holding pattern. It fails to solve the central question of where does the Dave Matthews Band go next, it suggests that even though they are aware of the problem, they haven't really pondered what to do about it. For must of us that is more than enough. Cool cover art too.

Sloan--A-sides Win: The Best of Sloan 1992-2004
Sloan is one of the finest power pop acts of its time. If you don't know Sloan this is a perfect time to get introduced to someone you will kick yourself for not finding about sooner. Let me put it this way--If you like Matthew Sweet click on the link below.

Bullet in the Brain. A cool short from 2002.

on this day in history
1941 - Joe DiMaggio began his historic major-league hitting streak (56 games). The New York Yankees got Joltin’ Joe off to a rather bad start, however, as they lost to the Chicago White Sox 13-1 at Yankee Stadium.

1964 - The Smothers Brothers, Dick and Tom, gave their first concert in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Ever want to smack up a celeb? Well here's your chance. It is a british site so just in time for the FA Cup they have a special lineup for us Yanks. Remember when they say Football is it our soccer.

How bloody cool is this. Duct tape suits people wore to the prom.

Secret wall pics. An artist goes into a hotel. Removes the artwork then leaves something for us.

Virtual drums in case you fancy yourself a drummer. Good luck.

...and that one looks like. Remember when you were little and you'd search the skies for clouds that looked like something? No...well people did do that. My o my what kind of childhood did you have. Nevermind I don't want to know.

Conspiracy theorists and collectors, take note: A section of fencing from the infamous grassy knoll in Dallas' Dealey Plaza is going up for auction.
The weather-beaten picket fence, along with its metal posts, goes up for bid Sunday at the Lelands.com online auction house. Bidding on the fence from the scene of President Kennedy's Nov. 22, 1963, assassination runs through June 16.
"It's an iconic item, in a macabre sort of way," said Simeon Lipman, director of Americana at the Long Island-based auction house.
The fence was rescued from the junk heap five years ago by Dealey Plaza tour guide Ronald D. Rice. When a construction crew began dismantling the fence to replace it in January 2000, Rice grabbed four sections each nearly 6 feet long and 4 1/2 feet high and put them into storage.
When the storage payments were not made, the fence was sold at public auction to Daniel Moses, who approached Lelands last year about selling it off, Lipman said.
Although the section of fence is indisputably from the Dallas location, there are questions about whether it's the fence that was standing on Nov. 22, 1963. The curator at the Sixth Floor Museum overlooking Dealey Plaza says many of the fence's wooden pickets were replaced over the years.
Lelands agrees that pickets snatched by souvenir hunters or ruined by the weather were replaced, but maintains "the wooden cross members that make up the main frame and the metal posts are original and predate 1963."
Several of the pickets have JFK-related graffiti, including the message, "Oswald Was Framed." Conspiracy theorists have long suggested a second gunman might have hidden behind the fence.
The minimum opening bid for the fence is $5,000, although Lipman acknowledged he had no idea what kind of bidding might ensue. "It's impossible to say with such a unique item," he said.

a top 5 list from KEXP's morning DJ--Jon. I know I've told you about KEXP but seriously listen. For Yourself and for the world around us. Together we can make the world a better place. Let's start with Music. Thanks. Anyway here is the list:

The Top 5 Signs That Maybe the World Isn't Ending Soon

1.Michael Jackson is reported to possibly lose both the Beatles and his own music catalog. Not only would some of the greatest songs ever written be protected from any Jacko harm but someone could also get the rights to everything from Thriller as well. Hopefully Paul McCartney but most likely it'll be some smary company that will end up mashing up the two and we'll get Let It Be Beat It or something, thus sending us back towards the end of the world

2.The 2nd Season of Chappelle's Show is out soon on DVD AND the third season is half way through production. However, he's now clashing with the network and suffering from exhaustion....which if you look on the bright side of things will probably make him even more pissed and do an even better show. Although if you're making 50 million dollars how pissed can you be? Clickity Clack! Clickity Clack!

3.A man in West Virginia who goes by the name "Jesus Christ" is in a legal battle over his name. It seems he can't get a driver's licence with that name....which is smart thinking, 2nd coming of Christ...the rapture...all being held off by the West Virginia DMV. Nice work fellas! If anyone by the name of Beezlebub comes by make sure to hold him off as well.

4.Alarmed by the retreat of its Alpine glacier, a Swiss ski resort on Tuesday wrapped part of the shrinking ice-cap in a giant blanket in a bid to reduce the summer melt. See, I was worried about global warming but really we just need some blankets to toss on the ice caps. Some would call this a quick fix and not a solution to the problem. Those people would be right actually. Crap.

5.Sonics stars are injured, go down a game to the Spurs and the M's blow this year. If any of the major Seattle teams win something, the end is near. 1979, remember that year? Life wasn't worth living.

I got this on tinymixtapes.
Kill Me Now: Damon Albarn threatens to assist ValKilmer on record

Why why why why why??! Why do film stars try theirhands at releasing albums and touring? Can't they just make a demo on their home 24-track and keep it tothemselves? So you're famous, perhaps attractive, andcan sing or play guitar. Maybe it's just a vanity project and you're really vain; we get it. But nobodycares! Ever hear of overexposure?! Do you really wantto be the next Dogstar or Thirty Odd Foot of Grunt?!Is your memory so short that you've forgotten David Cassidy, Don Johnson, and Bruce Willis??!! The onlyremotely successful forays seem to be when the star inquestions gives up on it really early before itbecomes parody (see Jason Schwartzman), or when thestar embraces their own ineptitude with a sense of kitsch and irony (see Pat Boone or William Shatner). So what the fuck gives!?

The latest celeb to make a bid for this dubious kindof infamy is Val Kilmer. That's right. The Icemancometh. And he's asked Damon Albarn for help with therecord. Albarn's generally got his plate full withGorillaz and Blur, but after meeting at a party,Kilmer reportedly told him "I feel I've got an album in me based on my life, and you're the only man on this planet who can make it happen for me." GivenKilmer's reputation, we hope Albarn has an abundanceof patience. Yeah, we know you sang a lot of thetracks rather than using overdubs in The Doors. Maybeyou're just trying to make us forget Batman Forever.Maybe you think you're the next Vanilla Iceman.Actually, if that's the case, go ahead and entertain us. We can't wait to be rocked To The Extreme.

Brian Wilson Records Holiday Album
It's not even Memorial Day yet, but Brian Wilson isalready dreaming of a white Christmas.
After recording a handful of Christmas songs with TheBeach Boys, Brian Wilson has laid down the tracks forhis first solo holiday album. The album, What I ReallyWant for Christmas is scheduled for an Oct. 18release, so you’ll be able to treat trick-or-treatersto some new Wilson tunes.
A pair of originals, the title track and“Christmasey,” appear on the album, as well as a pairof classic Beach Boys holiday hits, “The Man with Allthe Toys” and “Little Saint Nick.” Wilson devotes thebulk of What I Really Want, however, to traditionalyuletide tunes.
What I Really Want for Christmas’s track listing is:
What I Really Want for Christmas
Christmasey
Little Saint Nick
The Man With All the Toys
The First Noel
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
Oh Holy Night
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Auld Lang Syne
Deck The Halls
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Flaming Lips to Appear on Queen Compilation
Nick Patch reports:
It appears that the Flaming Lips are either super-duper enigmatic or cash-grubbing whores. Heck, maybe it's both! Fresh off an uninspired appearance onthe Spongebob soundtrack, the Lips have opted to cover"American Idol" killer "Bohemian Rhapsody" for an upcoming Queen tribute record. Finding a solid tracklist or release date for the record has proved difficult, and Hollywood Records didn't return our phonecalls (it's still mad because we took its sexy-girlfriend out after they broke up), but various news releases from the past six months have indicated Nickelback, the Used, and Sum 41 are all recording Queen covers; whether those bands will be sharing liner-note space with the Flaming Lips remains to be seen.

The band has a résumé full of well-executed covers(Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" comes to mind), so singer Wayne Coyne is confident. "No one wanted to do 'Bohemian Rhapsody'," Coyne told NME.com."At first we didn't either...We took it to task, knowing that when people think of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'they think of this huge overblown thing with the weird vocal swirls and backwards bits going on. I think we nailed it and made it a little more sad. We put a big operatic flourish in the middle just to make it alittle more Flaming Lips-ish."

Coyne also told NME that the new Lips album, At WarWith the Mystics should be released in January 2006.In the interim, Bradley Beesley's documentary about the band, The Fearless Freaks, is playing in a few theatres scattered across the United States. The movie will be released on DVD on May 18, complete with an extra disc of outtakes, deleted scenes, bonus livefootage, and some pictures.

I'm hungry--I'm dirty--I'm losing my mind--everything's fine

I am going to be away for a bit so I leave you with HM. HM do the people nice.

Have you seen Spirited Away? No. Remedy that then get ready for his newest. Howl's Moving Castle.

Are you a Republican? Find out with this quiz. Or Are you a right-wing nut or a left-wing nut? Answer a few simple questions and you can find out. I couldn't answer many of these without resorting to irony. Or maybe you'd like to take a different test. The Political Compass.

A decent musicblog called Sticker Shock. Some good Some OK but free and we all like free. And here is one more to check out too. It's called Little Hits. Enjoy.

COLDPLAY BREAKS RECORDS WITH "SPEED OF SOUND"
Coldplay's "Speed of Sound" single has debuted in the Top Ten of Billboard - the first British band since The Beatles in 1968 to have a new single debut in the U.S. Billboard Top Ten. The last time a British band achieved such a feat was 37 years ago when "Hey Jude" broke into the Top Ten.
Coldplay is set to release their third album, X&Y (Capitol) on June 7th, to be followed by a world tour, starting June 15th in Germany. The album is the follow-up to 2002's breakthrough Grammy-winning A Rush of Blood to the Head. Opening acts for the tour will include Interpol, Doves and Supergrass. X&Y was recorded in Britain with producers Danton Supple (Morrissey) and Ken Nelson (Kings of Convenience, Badly Drawn Boy).

Coldplay, Death Cab, The Crowes, Wilco and butt load of others in a fest that is better than SXSW. Austin City Limits.

This title is from Temple of the Dog. "Hunger Strike" is the tune. This idea was set up by Chris Cornell and he invited Eddie Vedder to sing along because he happened to be in town "trying out " for PJ. Well the CD was released and did ok then PJ took off and it was rereleased and fans bought it up. Life...it's all about timing. Well that and Breathing. You need to breathe. And eating. Yeah that too. Timing, Breathing and eating.

It's later here's more:

Stephen Colbert is getting his own show on Comedy Central. His show will be on after the Daily show. The Colbert Report will lampoon the Cult of Personality shows on Cable (like O'Reilly, Matthews, and Hannity). He will only be on the Daily Show occasionally. I hope it doesn't ruin the flow DS has right now. I guess right now I will just be happy that it basically means DS is an hour now.

File Under: It's a start now just get rid of the Adverts all together. This is a story from the NYTs.

Coming soon to a movie ad near you - if not to a space-squeezed marquee - the time that the movie starts. The time that the movie really starts, not the time that the trailers and the commercials start. Or words to that effect.
Loews Cineplex Entertainment says that next month it will begin publicizing true starting times, sort of.
John McCauley, the company's senior vice president for marketing, said the times in the company's newspaper and Web listings would still be the times when the trailers and commercials start. But the ads will also carry a note advising that, as Mr. McCauley put it yesterday, "the feature presentation starts 10 to 15 minutes after the posted show time."
Loews said it had heard from moviegoers annoyed by commercials that run before the trailers for soon-to-be-released films. Loews has heard from people who resent feeling that they are a captive audience for commercials that seem longer than ever. Loews has heard from busy moviegoers, so busy that they have to coordinate their moviegoing with busy babysitters, who want them home on schedule so they can catch the late show.
Loews, which has 11 theaters with 84 screens in New York City, will begin testing the notices next week in Connecticut, where it operates two theaters. The 198 theaters in New York City and the rest of the country will follow a few weeks later, once any kinks are smoothed out, Mr. McCauley said.
He said it was just a coincidence that Connecticut was the home of State Representative Andrew M. Fleischmann, a West Hartford Democrat who sponsored a bill requiring real times in listings. A similar bill was introduced in New York City Council by Councilwoman Gale A. Brewer of Manhattan.

Now there are 3 times the Company to hate. Clear Channel breaking into 3 groups. One for Radio, one for Billboards, One for entertainment. Now there are a few bids for one of their groups.

Radio fights back. Story from Rolling Stone.

Springsteen has 7th Number one. Devil and Dust comes in at top spot. It is great so don't be afraid to get it.

Sinatra in the mob or so says new Bio.

The post is from the mellow and wonderful new Ben Folds. The tune is called "Late" Good stuff.
